That's outrageous! With the Ashes coming up, then there would be what 3x tests in Aus before EOY, he could well push his way up towards the top of list for most runs ever in a calendar year!

I hope I'm wrong but the English conditions will be a real test for him IMO.

What sort of pitches dos they prepare for the kiwis? With swan gone it probably makes less sense for them to prepare flat turners again, but then again our pace attack will outperform theirs on any surface, but blunting our attack as much as possible could be the way to go for them

I just don't think that he can play with the same flair as he does on our decks, they'll seem and the poms generally swing the ball well.

We didn't even play 2 spinners in the UAE.

O'Keefe and Lyon played in the first test in the UAE.

In the 2013 tour of England he scored a ton, and two fifties. Averaged around 38-40 I think. Being a much better batsman now, there is no reason why he can't improve on those numbers.

I think whatever the Poms dish up Smith will be fine. Clarke hasn't been scoring like he was but you don't ever count blokes of that class out. Warner will be better for the hit while Rogers and Voges will feel as comfortable there as anywhere. If the ball swings over there what will Harris, Starc and Johnson do to them? If it's low and slow how will they get us out?

Frightening to think that we'll have to leave one of Johnson/Starc/Harris/Hazlewood out and the next group include Cummins/Pattinson/Bird. Heck, our 3rd best X1 would boast a handy bowling attack. I don't remember a time we had such strength in the fast bowling department.

Time for an Aus v Aus 'A' test!

I'm sure there are plenty around that would love a crack at the aussies to show what they're capable of - Voges, Klinger, Ferguson, Bird, Cummins, Neville, Pattinson, Ahmed etc etc..

It's a good point. Whilst the current crop don't compare to the McGrath/lee/Gillespie trio imo, I reckon they all have kasper/bichel/tait, the backup bowlers of that era, covered easily.

Having said that, imagine if Johnson didn't go off the rails for a while there. Might have even challenged McGrath for most wickets by a pace bowler. Will still get second comfortably would think - another 60 or so wickets.

Even with his crap years he still has the best strike rate of any Australian to take 100 wickets (narrowly beating Ryan Harris)
