We've prioritised Test Cricket over T20 cricket, and I see no problem with that. Bringing Cummins back for Adelaide probably cost him his spot in the World Cup. But, it was pivotal in winning that Test match and winning The Ashes, so it was worth it.

You win some, you lose some. Especially in T20. Zimbabwe have been pretty good in recent times and deserve to move through to the next stage.

I think perhaps a specialist T20 coaching group should take over and leave McDonald and co to concentrate on the longer formats. Steve Smith has already said one of his goals is the Olympics in 2028. Perhaps make him captain of the T20 side to include the 2028 Olympics and the 2028 T20 World Cup in Australia in October of the same year. He's proven he's a cut above any other batsmen we have in all formats.

The problem is we picked a 2nd to 3rd strength side against countries who are picking their best sides pretty much.

Some of that is because we prioritized test over t20 with Cummins whereas it comes across other countries would prioritize t20 if needed like South Africa.

Throw in that with some blatantly obvious selection flaws eg Smith being the classic.

You also cant tell me an inform Carey cant make that squad even if its purely as a batter over someone like Connnelly, Stoinis, current Maxwell, we dont need all 3 because they can bowl a tiny bit.

If we were picking our absolute best 11 what would it look like.......presuming we can play Cummins / Starc as they are being rested more than injured.

1. Head.
2. Marsh
3. Smith
4. Carey
5. Inglis
6. Renshaw
7. Maxwell / Stoinis
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Bartlett / Ellis
11. Zampa

Dare i say a David Warner averaging 86 and hitting 2 100's in the big bash should/could probably play in the world cup.

It's the same old story. Very hard to get picked for the team, harder still to get dropped.

Smith was clearly in the best team, we all know it. The selectors were just too pissweak to drop anyone.

You're obviously not aware Starc has retired from T20I's?

Missed that one.... i don't follow as closely as i once did especially outside of test matches and shield games.

Would be interesting to know how many other countries are missing 'stars' that are still playing test cricket but not playing T20.

Wouldn't be many surely......which is a credit to Starc.

when you pick players for their potential, (connolly) and reputation (maxwell and green) and not form (smith) this is what happens, we got what we deserved, pure and simple

Thanks to this disastrous WC, Australia will not get direct entry to the Olympics in 2028 and instead will have to go into the playoffs against the other minnows to gain entry :)
