Cant believe this club is still in div 3. I know no promotion last year but with the resources and number of junior teams they have had for 10 years, should be in div 1 by now.

I concur with this in one sense. Behemoth of a football club (and should be very proud of what it's accomplished to date.

I suspect this is a lesson in the value of the social capital clubs build up over generations of existence that's assists in both enhancing a club's ceiling and potentially, reducing its floor.

Hard to tell where footy is going at any point obviously, but you'd still lean towards GGFC being a perennial D1-D2 club from 2025 (at least!) onwards in a similar way to what Gullies have been. Law of numbers will eventually win out.

Easy to say they should be here or there but the club is still very young compared to a lot of the other clubs going around. Starting senior footy in D7 in the mid to late 90's to now a lot has transpired at Golden Grove.

From changing in a tin shed to at the start and having to walk up the hill at Greenwith oval to use the showers at the community center there has been a lot of progression in a short space of time. Rome wasn't built in a day and your better off building from the bottom with a great base rather then trying to for instant success - many many clubs have not succeeded long term with that approach.

Portland are in a world of pain. Sad really because they are a good club, but reality would question if they could recover from pulling out last year. It will be a long season for them, assuming they can keep it together.

Close game between Gaza and Golden Grove by the looks of it. Massive improvement from Gaza? or have Golden Grove come back to the pack? Wade Thompson and Nathan Krakeour will be big inclusions for Gaza aswell.
Portland score

Heard the same with Heintze too mate.

Gaza will be big improvers, GG still the team to beat. Morris, Barmby, Thach etc didn’t play on Saturday so would expect some improvement still as they all filter back in.

Horrible new for Heintze if that is the case, he stuck with them through the tough times and deserves to be part of the good times.

Great game of footy down at Edwardstown, they kicked with incredible accuracy and we were the total opposite and paid the price. Theyve brought in some handy players and will be hard to beat at home id say.

Would help if clubs loaded qtr by qtr scores so we wouldn't need you to advise of this Smokey. Come on club administrators - it's not that hard and is now a AdFL Requirement. It's the thing that surprised me most when we came across from the SFL in 2017. Whilst it has got better there are still several clubs across all divisions that are very sloppy with entering qtr by qtr scores and finishing off Team Sheets post game with player numbers and team changes etc.

Lack off volunteers maybe seems no one wants to do anything to help these days
Same ppl doing 10 different jobs no matter how simple it is.

Our issue isnt so much the lack of volunteers, but a few of our long serving team managers would resign on the spot if i asked them to do it all digitally from now on! Definitely something we are going to work towards though.
