A ruthless man but loved by every player who played for him. I've had a few coaches that I have really liked but I would probably rate Owie as the best. Still is respected as if he was still the coach.

Same here. He was my first senior coach and still the best. If I can't get my body right enough to play A's next year, I really wouldn't mind playing D's for him.

I remember one day at Pembroke circa 2004 that you were not as fond of him Boosh. No passengers on the field that day. ;)

*EDIT*

That may have been Stokesy, but pretty sure it was Owie.

Was Owen, he also once gave me and Chooky Chamberlain 1st and 2nd best in a game against Glenunga then watched the video of the game the next day called us in on Tuesday and said he didn't care how many kicks we got, we were out of position and not using the footy the way he wanted. His conclusion was that he regretted giving us best players and if we did it again this week we would be in the B Grade learning how to play the game properly. Moral of the story was we said sorry and we did as we were told the next game.

Yep, would have been about 15 played Pulteney and Burnside I think.

Speedy retired too young like many of that era.

 tough bastard and very honest. exactly how a coach should be. my first A grade game i was 15 and about 45kgs and he told me "do not start a fight with anyone"....so i ran on and belted a Pultney player 5 meters from the interchange.

I still think he was proud of me. Sandy actually gave me a copy of that game on VHS.

I think if he stayed on instead of leaving, the club would have been much more successful over the following 5-7 years. Pencil the D's in for a premiership in 2015.

I disagree with the above he had lost his edge and motivation by the end of that last season, needed a break.

I also disagree with the premiership claim, Owen will bring some players but he has agreed to work with the current guys and try get them more competitive.

Ok, i was still pretty young when he finished up, so didn't know a lot about the inner workings then.

The premiership claim should of had one of these bad boys ;) but i do think the D's will be a very different team with him in charge.

Certainly growing momentum. Has he had his Ingle Farm interview yet? The Roos might snag him first.

I wish I was in a position to apply for either of these roles. Only a few years ago we won the c4 flag & just this season gone our B grade won the d5r flag (we will still be in d5r). Our club is on the way back up. We are expecting another influx of kids from the schools 1st 18 & further recruiting is well underway. The club is starting to build & develop depth.

Aside the possibility of finals football it is a great club & family friendly. We look after our own.
It takes real courage to wear PURPLE!!!!!

Always beware the club who won the reserves flag the year before if their A's didn't play in a GF.

Did he apply at the Farm?
Matt would probably be better off starting fresh some where and away from friends if he wanted to go down that path.
Same for the Farms.
They need someone that can bring a couple of big mother chuckers to their side.

Still got promoted but.

Saw it first hand with us in 2010, I think it gave the club some belief that it can be achieved and made the club as a whole hungrier for further success.

I think it shows pretty good culture and depth also.

It's a great feeling playing in teams like that, had so much confidence in all my team mates and always felt calm knowing we can always win any game no matter the scores or conditions.

Mick Moss is making a comeback, and he's bringing brother Rob and 'Donger' with him.
