I'm tipping Rocket should start wearing a steel vest to ward of the steak knives that'll be coming his way
haha yea think he could use it to protect his ribs too.
Frustrating game to watch from my perspective. Districts skills were pretty average, particularly entry into the forward line. The umpires were very quick to blow the whistle, a lot of soft free kicks paid to both sides!! (Not saying it was the reason Portland won)
Portland were very determined all day, and too good. A few new blokes I didnt recognise. Draper was very good on Johncock, giving away 30kgs (I'd say), made it tough for him all day. Perkins was solid as usual, and did pretty well against a big body in Beeching; both of em rucked most of the day n woulda been stuffed by the end of the game! Miller was good when he wanted to be, but went missing for too much of the game. Wareing was BOG imo, kicking 4 in the first half, and setting the example for his side, was a bit quieter in the second half, not sure if it's because he changed his boots, or cos he was getting tagged
Cochiarro was solid all day, as was Prior, who kept Catterall and at times Beeching pretty quiet. De Palma kicked a few goals at important times to stabilise Portland. Laslett's second half was very good, and a big reason they held off a late come back from Districts after they were 5 goals down at 3/4 time. Gein did an ok keeping Mcdowall relatively quiet, and Dickenson was ok on a wing.
Gates, Rosenthal, and Maddern were pretty good for Districts, trying hard all day. Too many blokes went missing for PDFC, and will be interesting to see if any/many changes are made this week.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Portland before Saturday, but think they'll win a few games at home this season, they play it pretty well!
Districts will have to put in a lot more effort than what they produced Saturday if theyre going to have a chance against Walkerville, who are appear to be in great form already!
PS great effort by Flinders Park, I did not excpect that result either. A bit surprised with their B grade result though, Adelaide Uni are strong in that grade, but Flinders were last year too, n are supposed to have heaps of depth.
