Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2
Considering what country SA clubs are throwing around blokes aren’t going from Adelaide to the Sunraysia, Central Murray, Wimmera, Horsham Districts, South West and Hampden Leagues for the same money. Some serious coin getting thrown around in Western Vic.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

but inevitably, the constant travel becomes too much - we've only just got one of ours back after 2 (almost winless) years at Warracknabeal.
They're throwing around obscene amounts of money and still can't win a game, which makes our salary cap make all the more sense.
My new Mantra - I am no longer available to things and people that make me feel like shit

My point being, thats the sort of coin you need to spend when you're up against towns 3-4 times of what Warrack is, with more money, ex-AFL types etc.
I just wouldnt be throwing stones at clubs for not winning games when you ended up with a spoon.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2
That's fine, yes, it's a completely different league. I've been involved in that league, with a club that's now merged with a district league club. I know how it works. I know that juniors are lost after U17s because they go to the city for Uni or can't wait to move out of their small town or go chasing $$ at other clubs.
I know that the actual amount of money spent in any given year can sometimes depend on how successful the previous seasons crops were.
You're mistaking stones for facts
The amount of money spent in this instance, wasn't a good return for 4 wins over 2 years
MY point, which you seemed to have missed, (if you care) - is that I'm glad our comp doesn't allow clubs to spend horrendous amounts of money to end up with similar results.
Nothing more, nothing less.

They pay what they can afford though I guess, its all relative.
Its not like clubs dont spend stupid money in the ammos either, anyone playing D4 or below who gets paid is stupid money.

Clubs D4 or below paying everyone is stupid money.
Clubs D4 or below paying SOME players to raise standards and get up to higher divisions is not, IMO.

So sick and tired of hearing this shit. It's been soo long now since money came in, the landscape has changed. Deal with it.
Spending money in all grades has become part of basic operations of footy clubs.
Can't get out of the lower divs unless you attract some talent to help.
Can't get talent very often for free.
Move up a grade, need to retain and add..
Can't add to your list without bringing in more talent and it costs money.
If money was exclusive for only the top divs, Golden Grove, Glenunga, Lockleys... they'd all be running around in D6 still - and the comp would be weaker for it.
So ******* the rhetoric about money... it aint changin.

I hear ya, and I dont necessarily disagree either.
My point was that you cant bag some clubs across the border (or wherever) paying 4 figure weekly sums to players, whch they can easily afford BTW, and then forget what clubs like the ones you mention have done to get to where they have.
Its not called SAAFL anymore for a reason.

Totally agree, and if lower division clubs aren't prepared to reward their juniors who step up into senior footy and show promise, but higher division clubs are going to pay them, guess where they'll play. A grade footballers who play simply for the love of the club are very few and far between. Are we better off because of it? No. But is it reality? Absolutley.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2
Be nice to see some consistency with player payments across the country leagues in SA and Victoria.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Mallee comp fell over due to the extra cash available with an extra 2 hours in the car. And a lack of generous benefactors compared to the South-East leagues.

The Mallee comps and surrounds have been collapsing for 50 years. It’s no different to what’s happened/happening in Western Victoria. Those smaller towns/clubs simply don’t have the populations to support footy sides and this isn’t a new issue. Soon as one or 2 clubs collapse or merge then so does that league.

Look at Whyalla FL. Norths and Centrals are in discussions to merge, some whispers of Souths and Weroona Bay merging too. This would make it a four team comp.

There is a common sense resolution there and that’s once again combining the SGFL with the Whyalla clubs. Having 6 clubs in Whyalla is way too many given the population there is half of what it was in the late 70’s

Will be interesting to see how ex Strathalbyn players Ben Simounds & Elliott go for Brighton.
Simounds must be keen to have left Keith.
A favourite son returning to Broadview and he's a far better player than what he was when he was there previously

Any truth in the rumour that Payneham has asked to be demoted M2 because of large exodus of players and PAOC to remain in M1?

I’ve also heard the same thing. It wouldn’t be the worst thing to do with how many A and B graders have left Payneham! Interesting to see if it happens.FredNerk wrote:Any truth in the rumour that Payneham has asked to be demoted M2 because of large exodus of players and PAOC to remain in M1?

As mentioned in Div1 this is completely made up by someone assuming a new identity on the forums. I guess silly season is upon us.Sticks28 wrote:I’ve also heard the same thing. For the record the Falcs had 40-50 at a pre-season session and hit the ground running again Thursday. They wont be challenging at the top end but under the Legend that is Garry McIntosh they will be there having a crack.
