The concern I have is that the league is sending the wrong message out. To me, allowing the player to return after they have clearly seen the incident and know the damage it has caused, is sending a message that you can throw a punch on a Saturday and break someone’s jaw, put them out of work etc. and you will get a second chance to play in our league. Is it just me who is thinking about it like this?

Whether it is out of character for this person or not, whether it was a brain fade or whatever, allowing the player to play again provides an element of risk of them doing it again, you know another brain fade or out of character moment, it just doesn’t seem right to me.

So based on this, I would expect to see incidents like this continue to occur if that is the message the league is sending. If punching someone in the face off the ball, while he isn’t looking and breaking their jaw doesn’t warrant a life ban, then what action does one have to carry out and what damage do they have to cause to cop a life ban?

Couldn’t agree more mate

I would rather see a bloke like him banned for life for an incident like than a bloke who is suspended 5-6 times over ten years for slightly minor discretions etc

Even with the fixture nuances after Round 14, I believe there are still 9 minor round games remaining in Div 7 so he could be back for Mawson Lakes 2nd final. They are currently sitting 2nd so a good chance they will play at least one final. And that 2nd final could potentially be against the Units. 9 games, 14 goals, and 4 times in best, would indicate he is an automatic selection once available.

So he can be a premiership player in less than 90 days time, that would not be a great look.

There are 8 minor round games left. Lakes would need to play in the GF for him to play again this year.

What if the victim is just a part-timer or fill-in or is about head off overseas and miss the rest of the season anyway. What if the incident happens in Round 17 or Round 18 and the victim is ready to go from Round 1 next year regardless of the extent of the injury. And what if the victim picks up a different injury at work, home or training and has to miss more footy than the original injury. Sounds good in theory to run with the eye for an eye penalty but it's just not feasible.

If you look for excuses and reasons not to do things nothing will ever get done.

My suggestion is that the player faces the tribunal as usual and if found guilty initially receives the so called minimum number of games for the offence (say 8 games) knowing that the tribunal will re-access the position say in 6 weeks when they are more aware of the full picture. They may leave it as it is or increase the penalty subject to to more up to date information.

Whilst it has perhaps been a bit lost with the Crabs win, was super proud of Mitchell Park's games on Saturday. It's been a **** of a year for a lot of reasons, but we've never stopped having a dip. To beat the strong Houghton side in the ressies and then a team who I think will make the Grand Final in the seniors was superb.

We probably carried on a bit, so sorry for that Raiders people, but it meant a fair bit as well. As always, you carried yourself as a football club with aplomb and grace.

Take SPOS out of this Division and the comp looks really good. Anyone could win it, but unfortunately for them, they're all playing for a long second place.

Ladder after Rd 12
24 - St Pauls OS
15 - Houghton
13 - Mawson Lakes
13 - Adelaide Lutheran
-----------------------------
13 - Central United
10 - Greenacres
06 - Mitchell Park
02 - Flinders Uni

St Pauls have top spot sewn away, and the rest begin wrestling for seeding with 2 weeks to go before the top 4 is locked away. Massive game this weekend out Mofflin when Units host Houghton. The Raiders can effectively lock away a finals spot with a victory, whilst the Units will remain well in the hunt. Questions need to be asked about just how fair dinkum the Units are - do they really want it? Need to be more ruthless.. last two weeks are opportunities gone begging and should be well entrenched in the top 4.

Mawson Lakes vs Adelaide Lutheran another beauty on the cards this weekend - similar to the Units v Raiders clash, the winner goes a long way to a finals spot.. the loser will have a tough time of it, as Greeacres begin to position themselves as a threat over the back 6 rounds.

Sides need as much breathing space over the Dragons as possible or run a serious risk of being run down for that 5th finals spot.

Must say as we get closer to that Rd 14 cut off and then the round robin 4 rounds for the "wild card" I really am liking the idea more and more.. ands another element of intrigue to the div.
