Haha I guess I'm not that surprised. I did take his 'I'm retiring' talk with a grain of salt - he's been saying it for about six years now. Well, Thapphireth will be handy to have around. And I'm glad he's not going to give footy away completely.

I may have made that up hoping that he would forget he didn't actually say that and just go along with it. I'll be in his ear though!

But in all seriousness D7R football is pretty much bruise free and we would love to have someone like Steady. it's a great way to stay included with the club, get a bit of fitness but have a few less commitments and demands.

It's worth talking to him about. He did say he wasn't going to deregister as a player and mentioned he might play the odd ressies game if they needed numbers. :)

I offered odds of $9.50, so no.

It would be the biggest upset in my football memory if MP got up on Saturday.

I reckon you rate Bray a bit too much ;)

Someone has 2

Maybe she can tell me all about him ;)

Steady's no racehorse but still one of the most reliable defenders in the game. A former captain, very good at directing the back six. Absolute gun back in the day (won a B&F at Blackwood and came third in the Mail Medal a couple of times) but dogged by injuries in recent years. Veteran of 300+ games of senior footy, this will be his last game. That about sums things up. :)

Now i know everything about the great man :)

Only take one good game for everything to click though.. and everyone loves an underdog.

I would personally love to see both Houghton and Mitchell Park move up to D6 next year.

we're clicking. Don't worry about that. Playing as well as we possibly can at the moment. But that only gets you so far, which I think is a GF. Amazing achievement for this group but in all honesty I suspect Houghton will be too talented, too strong and too good.

Just borrowing an Abbott-ism. ;)

I can't say I've ever given it much thought until now, but it'd be pretty s***house being a suppository, wouldn't it? (Was that a pun? Ugh. My brain is broken.)

Anyway, hooray for football!

Agree football is about having fun playing higher grades I lost interest few years back after coming to Houghton during season I enjoy football again

Absolutely. Really glad we came to Mitchell Park this year and wish we'd done it sooner, because this is the old fella's last year. I haven't seen him enjoy his footy so much in ages.. Will definitely be sticking around the club and coming to watch next year. :D

Probably doesn't help when you play for Aldinga ;)

That was part of it. Not because of their lack of success, mainly it was because he'd been trying to retire for the last three or four years, then he'd go 'Oh, they need numbers, I might just play a B-grade game' and next thing he'd find himself playing full back in the A grade all year. Aldinga regularly get big scores kicked on them, and some of the SFL full forwards are monsters. He was the oldest bloke in the team by a good seven or eight years, and I think in the end it was more work than fun. Your body's not the same at 34 as it was at 24.

Generally when you reach 34, you're granted the right to sit at forward pocket in the B-Grade. I look forward to doing this next season, slotting some sausage rolls alongside the great Robbie Allen.

About week one of pre-season.
