Number 1 for Payneham has as a good a nose for goals as I've seen at div 1 level. Kicks like a mule too.

Please explain what the cards mean please?
Colour and outcome.

To my knowledge

Yellow card - player is sent off for 10 minutes and can be replaced

Red card - player is sent off for the game and can be replaced after 10 minutes therefore you play with 17 men. I also think it's an automatic one game suspension plus the outcome of the sanction. That may have change now due to the points system

So no report for a yellow.
Still win the medal?
So is a red card an auto report, plus a 1 game suspension.
Can they get off the auto 1 game suspenion and/or could an extra 2/3 games be added to the red card action 1 game after a tribunal hearing?

Thanks for that.
So a yellow or red card does not mean a report is to follow.
One game for a red card is guaranteed no discussion to follow?

Depends on the severity of the charge and whether it's a 'prescribed penalty' or sent to the tribunal. You can not accept the penalty and have the matter heard though

We called the game live, well the second half anyway and the Clint Dow red card from a neutral point of view was nothing short of absurd. Knocked a guy over after he took a mark. Nothing malicious, no damage. It was vexing. Barely a 25. Bloke looked to milk it.

I missed McKays but got a straight red and was sent for the day. It did cause an all in argy-barge so something happened but again no one got belted.

It was hard to get clarity on the card situation but there was reds and yellows all over the place in a game that was NOT played with Spite and was a good physical contest.

Overall the umpires did a good job but certainly a touch trigger happy on the cards.

Good game of footy with the Hawks looking far too good in the third but Peter Persinos inspired a fight back with 3 clutch goals in the third to get the Gullies in striking distance and they found another gear in the last.

Spot on with the overview and the call on the trigger happy cards! McKay's didnt look great, probably warrented but Dow's wasnt a red.. Modbury player initially got a yellow, but the Gullies player stayed down and looked KO'd.. then got switched to Red! didnt look much in it, the lad wearing a helmet got up and ran off the oval a minute later.. i was standing with a few gullies supporters i know and we were both having a laugh if those last two incidents lead to players getting games.

Hard game, very physicaly, but i wouldnt call it overly spiteful.. for a local derby between these two sides it was fairly tame in comparison!

Cash 123 wrote:The league is on the verge of having a very serious issue to deal with. umpires are issuing yellow and red cards for incidents that would have been barely free kicks in years gone by. Also to my knowledge they have been instructed to issue cards just to control the game irrespective of the incident. Will be only a matter time before many clubs start lodging complaints. I guarantee we will see the number of hearings at the tribunal increasing and put a strain on the leagues resoucres.

Noticed this massively over the weekend, and chatting to a bloke who watched a Div 5 game and said the same thing was happening in the games he saw.. Very trigger happy with the cards. is this a new approach?

i saw a lad get yellow carded for a bit of lip (which was silly at best but not malicious), then asked the umpire if he was going to run off with him and explain what it was for, umpire changed it to red!

I guess just starting the season with a firm approach to roughhouse tactics by some players.

I think you'll find out in the wash over the next few days, that there were a few incidents from the weekend that resulted in some folk having to eat through straws for a while - so I'm gathering HQ is probably a bit jumpy but wouldn't say now they were over cautious though, especially after there were 9 reports in Rd 1 alone like JK mentioned in the club update last week.

Perhaps all players should read the rules relating to reports with penalities.
E.g.
1 game for mouthing off.
A red card.

Agreed players could be more over the rules

Cash 123 wrote:Its not the clear red card incidents from striking or abuse we are talking about.

Its getting to the stage where umpires are carding incidents which shouldn't be and thus players are getting unfairly treated.

Umpires have been instructed where in doubt to issue the maximum penalty even red card, as they can then back track on that during the week but they cant upgrade eg from yellow to a report.

Not sure I agree. The rules clearly state that you can be red carded and cop a week for mouthing off.

Then we have others that suggest throwing jumper punches should be a free kick for high contact or maybe a yellow card, and saying the umpires were trigger happy on the reds!

roller snake eyes wrote:from what I heard he through a couple jumpers so if he connected then maybe a yellow card but surely a high free kick at worst.
...
I think the umpires were just to trigger happy on the red cards because I've seen a lot worse where no sanction was given.

Good result for Gullies, Good result for Modbury, good result for football.. from what i saw none of the events were worth players missing games for.

Given the chat about A1 tribunal reports and red cards can't find any on the leagues site.
Can anyone show me where they appear given it is 5 days after the round.
Maybe there were none.

Tribunal sits on Wednesday night. Given it's 9:30 on Thursday morning, and there are no games this weekend I'd expect it will be up eventually.

Go to http://www.adelaidefootball.com.au/trib ... tigations/ then click on Tribunal List 2017. The tribunal hearings for reports from last Saturday's games aren't listed yet. There is usually a few days delay.
