I heard it was to play at a higher level but i don't believe that crap as Portland have jumped a Div.
Has this got anything to do with $$$, we know Portland can be very tight when it comes to that, has he had a fall out with some team mates from Portland?
I rate Birdy as a player but i do question his honesty.

Must be very a unhappy situation to make a captain to leave a club. This is just what I've heard.

When 1 bloke is getting $400, maybe birdy thought he deserved a similar amount. Portland have always been "careful" with their money
I'm number 1, so why try harder!!

right on the money with that earlier post no mercy, and nothing will change while those people are running the show mate, apparently there is plenty of money there for the football department yet we see no recruits, i just don't see the point in making a bloke like dave look like a w@nk@ when all he's done is try and make portland a better club

money has come up in virtually every post about this topic which is interesiting even if what you are saying is true bubba

so if money isn't the problem, is it the fact that no one wants to come to play under pearcy?

If that was an issue (which is far from the truth we would not have any one. If Bird chases maoney or wants to furtehr his CV as a Div 1 footballer by all means let him do so. As far as the rest of it goes. Scorned voices start shite but its up to each and everyone to take it on face value and let the club's move on. Its all very premature seeing nothing can happen until 1st Feb. Even then you need to keep people happy until Jun 30. You win some, you loose some. Personally im looking ofrward to coming up against some new teams and ones weve played in the past.

i don't think ricks coaching has much to do with players leaving mate and at the end of the day portland has only lost 3-4 players from last years grand final side so its not the end of the world for them, but that footy club does have to make some massive changes if it is to be succesfull at a higher grade,

there absolutely needs to be changes made to the commitee but i can't see that happening any time soon and yes it is run by former rivvies people, also yes there is a problem with player recruitment but as to whos fault it is i am not sure. all i know is there is 'apparently' plenty of coin to spend, but no one wants to come and play there, it might be the coach i'm not sure but it might be something different, you;d have to ask those who have been targeted by rick to play there and see what they think i guess

I think you'll find Birdy is leaving for personal reasons. He recently got back with his missus and she didnt approve of the night life at the dome. A 'family club' like Henley will suit thier lifestyles much better with a little one on the way.

Its funny the bullsh!t you hear around the place, i have to admit i did question Birdy's honesty because i was told he said he wasn't going anywhere, little was i told through the same source but Birdy was actually pushing the club for more recruits to be more than competitive in Div2 & the club digging a bit deeper financially to cover the 4-5 recruits they'd need to be very competitive, with that Birdy was more than keen to captain Portland in Div2 providing this took place.
The same old story here with Portland i see, reluctant to let the moths out of their pockets!
I've said it before certain people at the club let down the players that are their to play at the highest level, it was great & ok when these "certain people" were playing for Rivvies at the highest level in their day & getting success but its not ok for the current to have that same opportunity.
When will the club wake up?
When you lose more & more of those players clubs can't afford to lose.

Correct. He wasn't happy with how things were operating at the club. I think he's been contemplating having a go at Div 1 for a couple seasons now. Can't blame him for wanting to get a full pre-season under his belt instead of rolling in just before the season gets underway. I'd hope there are no hard feelings towards Dave, as he is a great bloke, although is not a good look when the captain walks out on a club.

Im pretty certain Dave Bird left after having a very public falling out with Jarrod Wareing.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

Any truth in the rumor that PAOC could be losing a couple of good players to Athelstone?

The coach could have a few surprises but. 1 loss could turn into 6 quality gains real quick.

Yank Man sounds like he's closer to the scenes than what he was originally letting on. I hear there are a few players concerned the new coach is not a real "reds man"
