Just hard to understand with both Kilburn and Brahma Lodge going thru the same thing. I find it hard to understand so many players leaving these clubs all at once and it not being for a better offer anywhere.
I think football has some real concerns at the moment with cash getting thrown around so much. PG what is your role at the club going forward?

Have bought premiership sides (or died trying) the last 5 years and in that time have been at best ambivalent to not fielding a C Grade, a halfway competitive B Grade or juniors.

Having spoken to several of the A graders from last season, they have all been paid up and have no problems with that side of things.

Clubs becoming victims of their own success? Players get noticed more in sides that are doing well, bargaining power for that player is increased with premierships.

Absolutely, having spoke to a few blokes the simple answer was "Decent money was too good to pass up.." and i've heard that also from some average A grade players not just the top end blokes.

I think it was mentioned in an earlier post, but the population of Kilburn has changed with the influx of refugees who don't play footy. Having that change of population has really hurt Kilburn, so without the locals to play at the club I guess they've had to recruit players with cash. Although I don't think its not a new thing for Kilburn to offer players a decent sized match payment. However, as we have all witnessed, players that come to your club on the back of being offered a decent pay packet can quickly move on if offered a bigger one elsewhere.
On the flip side, you look at Modbury and TTG where there's been a growth in population over the years and from that they field 4 senior sides each (I think) and copious amounts of junior teams.

Additionally look at the number of clubs in the northern suburbs within a few drop punts of one another. Some have managed to set up fantastic junior programs (Eastern Park, Salisbury).
Where there's a will there's a way.
If you've come to the point that the Committee has decided that cash in the only way to continue to field competitive football sides and have given up on fielding junior sides then you're effectively just treading water in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Eventually you're going to drown.

We do lose juniors to PAOC, SPOC, Iggies and BOS but we have tried to make a greater connection between the juniors and seniors and we'll continue to do so. We've got a good connection with some country towns and are able to pick up the kids that move to the city for uni as their mates are already at the club. Plus we're a great club to be involved with anyway

There in lies the problem with paying players, once they get paid it's very hard to go back to earning $0 for the good of the club. All of a sudden they believe their own hype and start chasing it, and whatever club loyalty they may have had, disappears. Same thing has happened to Brahma Lodge.
Kilburn didn't have to pay Brading, Molyneux, Pearce, Galbraith, Brackstone etc, they chose to, at some point they're going to leave for more money, or go back to their home club they were poached from. You make your bed, you lay in it.

A question I would ask Kilburn:
How have you worked with the AFL or Auskick to encourage these folk to try our great game. Areas of Sydney have whole teams of muslim women playing the game.
If a non AFL state can attract that type of competition from women, no less, who in any other life wouldn't even be allowed out of the house, how is it that Kilburn haven't been able to do the same with people that in theory, would be a great pick up in anyones side for height and pace.
A magnificent example of this is the young lad from Woody South - Ramah Ahmed - the kid is a great player and I think only about 19?

That's wonderful to hear. I realise it is logistically difficult judging from what you said, but from what I saw he would really benefit from some specialist coaching out at the League clubs.

He would, we're just hoping that when he does head out to Central that he continues to get support from their end to help him make trainings and games, even a MetroCard or something. He could be anything with the right level of support.

Can Mitcham make the most of their chance to stay up?
Plympton I imagine will be strong and Old Iggies had really good numbers on the track back in Jan when i seen them.

Historically the Div 4-3 jump is one of the smaller in the SAAFL (see Scotch, Kilburn in the last two years) and as such presumably Plympton will acquit themselves well.
I would think that Seaton will continue to be around the mark after 3 consecutive chokes. Also Modbury appear to have recruited well as two sides who will have many players with Div 1 football in recent years under their belts. Add in last year's finalists in Pembroke and Athelstone, along with some improvement from Old Iggies and Unley Mercedes and it should be a decent division of football.

coaches shoudlnt have to bring sponsorship to clubs.
really i dont beleive they should bring in 15-20 guy's either.
as we've seen, destroy's clubs.
probably should be a maximum list a club can have on their books, depending on how many senior teams.
