Im not saying this is whats happened but seems strange that the community football board have been trying to get nemjfa clubs to accept the new play by the rules system but are getting strong resistance from the junior clubs. Then out of the blue this pops up at a saafl delegates meeting at which a prominent executive member also just happens to be a member of the Community Football board?
coincidence or not ?

Personally I think it's a great proposal, but don't a high percentage of kids still play saturdays for their school? Especially colleges whose players used to have to play for the school. It would certainly be good for all clubs if the kids could play in front of the seniors. Maybe the league could start with consultation with the junior associations and get their feedback without upsetting the applecart.

For the good of community sport why can't school footy be changed to Sunday?
The saafl be zoned to North and South and merged with the SFL? Make it far easier for this concept to work.....

Most junior comps are played on Sunday's. Play them in school hours like they did many moons ago.

Lots of interesting ideas on this one and has merits and also might be a bit hard to organise to keep the majority happy.
• Moving school football to mid week or a Sunday is one option, so that the junior games can be played Saturday mornings (which appears the plan) Where does college football sit though as almost certain not to change that.
• I have generally found out that people do not like even the slightest of change and it will take a lot of convincing to make a new concept work and there will be resistance.
• People from run the junior competitions now, will almost certainly not be happy and cause grief which will result in difficulties between senior and junior clubs
All up it might be tough to make the many changes needed to make it all work on a Saturday morning. Wait and see I guess. Has merit though but seems like it could get messy. Might be more feasible in years to come with more passing of time. Has merits though but a lot of water under the bridge before it could work.

There would be a major shortage of umpires should club juniors be moved to a Saturday morning.

Probably true LM but i have noticed that all our games this year from U11-U16 inclusive have had 2 umpires so obviously the merger with the CD League has bought more across which is a good thing

Only about half a dozen came across, there's a few APFL ump's getting around in there aswell, at least 10 off the top of my head, that's where it would start thinning out, they are all busy on Saturday's along with a heap do ammo's and SAPSASA in the mornings.

You need two for 13's up IMO.

Possibly a few more negatives than positives at the moment, but has definite merit to it and could be like country football, which has all the junior games and netball etc, etc at the one venue.
While the standard of say the B&L and Southern League is only between D3 and D2, the actual day of going to the football is an event, and a great day out. More days like that would be good for Amateur Football IMO.
The B&L and Southern League Grand Finals are community events and are very, very well run. They are considerably better than the SAAFL Grand Finals for that reason. Maybe food for though to have the kids to make it an event for the day. Perhaps another way of looking at it.

I think there's scope in having say 16's & 14's on a Saturday before the seniors but you couldn't cram too much into it.
You're right about the country GF's, they have an excellent feel to them.

There is a large amount of practical reasons why this wont work.

School football....college football will never change, some schools effectively give thousands of $$ to families each year so they will sign up their gun footballer son to a school. They take it pretty seriously. If you want to talk about 'paid players', colleges school sides would probably have the biggest budget. #ethical?

Umpires. Most older umps already ump on Saturday, whilst younger ones play. In MSJFL we have 45-50 umps, nearly all of whom would be unavailable.

Where and when are you going to play the games????? TTG for eg has a zillion teams... how are you going to fit them all in?? Only so many grounds/hrs in a day. Barely fit junior games in on a Sunday

Les not discount anything at the moment and just say IT WONT WORK OR IT CAN'T WORK as it is only a few days since approval has been given to look further (although I would suspect it was already well and truly looked at before Monday night by the SAAFL)
Yes - it would appear difficult at the moment to have it, but lets not close our minds from it. It could still work and lets see what happens, over the next few months or even years.
Possibly, it won't begin next year and maybe it needs more time and it sounds like it might need more time to make it all work. Lets remember that anything is possible, unless you close your minds to it happening. Just a thought.

I will straight out say IT WONT WORK OR IT CAN'T WORK.

Clubs would not have the infrastructure to support such a move, grounds could not handle the amount of traffic over the course of the day and logisitically it would be almost impossible to fit all games in on a Saturday.

Then there is the travel issue, parents will not be prepared to travel twice the distance early on a Saturday morning if required.

Then what about the parents who have more than one kid and suddenly have to travel to two seperate parts of the state to get their kids to games?

How do you structure the competition? North & South Divs? All in the same div? Promotion relegation?

If it aint broken then dont fix it!

Most clubs have 2 grounds these days, we have anything up to 7 games on a Sunday at broadview, travel, yes will always be an issue, parents already have the problem with getting kids to two different venues at the same time, obviously there would be divisions as there is in the NEMJFA these days and finally

agree, it definately aint broke, well not in the NEMJFA so why tamper with something that is successful and is pulling kids still into the game. Time all these others that are trying to change things just left things alone to those running the comp. That is all
