It is what it is. At a month out from round one I'd just like some finality so we can get on with making plans for the season.

It's not the NFL with live TV coverage of every game. Could you imagine coming up against a side at finals time that you haven't seen all year and haven't got a clue about?

If you are a better side you should still beat them

2*8 team divs

14 rounds

Bye

The remaining 3 weeks you play 3 matches against seeded clubs from other div (but who gets the home games)

Finals- afl 8 team format, top 4 from each div play finals

Rounds 15-18 needs more work but think you'd have more clubs happier like this than having byes and 7 teams etc

Need to keep it as simple as possible.. I dont think seeded games etc is the way to go. I like the idea of 2 x 8 team comps, but then just play sides within your own div, and cop the luck of the draw.. I'd like some sort of resolution soon though, we are only a month off round 1..

Unless its a 10 team comp there is no fair and equitable way of doing an 18 round draw, so I think the league are fighting an uphill battle to satisfy everyone as much as they can.. I think its at the point where people just want it sorted regardless of outcome..

What's not equitable about a 9 team comp with a bye?

Been working just fine for SANFL.

Who had only 9 to choose from and played 23 rounds...

Perhaps drop a div 1 reserves team down to see how they'd go against div 6 clubs.

i agree but your then asking a div 6 club to immediately come back down to div 7 to make it 8 teams

Exactly. So how is 9 teams + bye less equitable in 18 rounds than 23 rounds.

isnt the concept of a 7 team season as well as a bye severely unappealing? try attracting players to such a div?

do you think Varcoe's taste buds are still full of excitement plus?

It's not. Both aren't equitable

2*8 team divs

# first 14 rounds are easy, they play each other twice

# before the season starts each club is given a RANK

# rounds 15-18, the top rank 4 play the top rank 4 from the other div & the bottom rank 4 play the other bottom rank 4 from the other div

# all clubs get 9 home games, no byes

# afl final 8 system, top4 from each div go to finals to win div 6 premiership

But how is an equal number of home games, away game, and byes, not equitable?

I just need to state that I am on the 9 team side of the coin, I think its no issue. However some people kick up stinks about losing 1 home game beause it could 'cripple' clubs if the bye falls at an inopportune time..

Marbles, I get what you are saying mate but its just far too complicated, 9 team comp is just simple, reverse draw

The old SANFL system wasn't equitable over 23 rounds, some teams played 3 times, others twice.

Over 18 rounds, a 9 team draw is equitable.

Is scrapping all principles of promotion & relegation for the benefit of 7 clubs worthwhile? I doubt it.

It's not going to change now, so lets be sensible.
