Yeh printed laces are used on Port Magpies, Pukatja Magpies, Goolwa/Port Elliot Magpies and possible other guernseys now. I don't mind them printed on guernseys, adds a bit of charachter i reckon :D

It's interesting how one rash comment can command such in depth responses. I was merely stirring the pot due to boredom and a friendly like/hate relationship with the creeks.
However i will add to my earlier rash remarks and ask how many times have the club spending the most dollars for their league that season actually won the flag? It would definitely be a few, but the odds would not be good.
In my time, several of the big spenders have had septembers on the sidelines......
Money and recruits are definitely not everything, contrary to the last 50 pages of this forum, but hard work and teamwork is.... and you will find the teams working the hardest with the most numbers on the track (getting to know each other) this time of year will be still playing come finals time....
cheers,
Captain Obvious.

Jumper looks great Damian!

So whats the premiership ladder going to look like in GSFL this year?

This would be my guess:

Willunga
Langhorne Creek
Strath
Victor
Mt Compass

McLaren
Saints
Yankalilla
Encounter Bay
Myponga

I have been having a look at clearances out of the GSFL, some decent players leaving Compass, will they be able to cover Braidwood, Usher, Schmidt and Gregor??? I think they will be fine covering Schmidt and Gregor but Braidwood and Usher are quality players.

Don't get to see much footy Damo? :D

Usher has been teaching in the country somewhere (Whyalla I think) and I don't think he's played for about 2 or 3 years! He should be able to be covered by now!
Braidwood didn't play last year and while he would be a pretty handy inclusion into Compass' forward line, I think they covered him reasonably well! I didn't think they were to bad up forward last year from the times I saw them.
If Gregor is the ginger haired bloke they called Razza or Ranga I don't think he played last year or could have possibly played in the reserves! I think they should be able to cover him with another young bloke!
Schmidt - 6'2" strong running defender / utility player, and seems like a top bloke!! I would say he will probably be the toughest one of them all to cover!!

Keep that finger on the pulse Damo and keep us up to speed with the latest coming and goings!! ha ha!! Just stirinnnnn' ;)

Way too hard to pick!!!

Willunga

Then in no particular order (will be some cracking games amongst these clubs!):
Victor
Mt Compass

McLaren
Magpies
Yankalilla
Encounter Bay

And unfortunately:
Myponga

Interesting to see there are more clearnaces going out of the League than coming in. That cannot be good for our competition. Is this because of the points system?

I agree Damo, the competition between the teams placed 3rd or 4th through to 9th should be very good by the look of things. It certainly doesn't look like there'll be as many 20 goal+ blowouts as there has been in recent years.
One of the reasons for bringing in the points system was to even up the comp over a period of time. Do you think that the points system has anything to do with the comp starting to even out in 2009? (everyone below the top 2 or 3 teams anyway)

Limb i believe the league will certainly even up over the years but to the detriment of the standard of the league. Fair enough we want an even competition but the standard wont be there, guys will be getting an A grade game that arent A grade footballers. The comp this season is shaping up to be a real close one tho with any one of a number of sides going to push for a finals spot. Early wins will be important!

It will be still Willunga first and then a big gap. The fight for second will continue in 2009 and Victor look to be the big improver.

I dont think the current point system will even up the comp at all. It will put a bigger gap between the top & bottom sides and make it tougher for bottom sides to recruit. I dont think anyone ever imagined that player payments would rise so much so quickly. They need to stagger the points allocated between top & bottom, the bottom sides need to be able to recruit 7-10 players to even up the comp quickly, the Gsfl i believe was once a premier country league but not anymore. Feel free to agree or disagree.
