Thats interesting. Haskett and Portlock offered $40000 to play in Canberra isnt exaggerating?

I agree the highest bidder doesnt always get the player.

3 weeks out from our first trial against the Valleys. Very keen to get out there and have a kick in anger.

You seen any of Valleys so far this year mate at the 20/20 carnivals, i work with a bloke who plays for them and apparently struggling for numbers, alot of blokes chosen not to come out yet, hopefully they all get out in the next couple of weeks give ya a decent run. Watch out for the bash and crash of Sugg

20/20 starts tonight at the Valley. Sacrad Heart V Flinders Park and Happy Valley V Mt Lofty.

Stephen White would be extremely handy in the GSFL, would only be early 30's i'd say.

I'd say his Murray Bridge club Imperials wouldn't be too happy about missing out on a zero pointer of his quality though.

Does this mean you two will piss off until games start before you enlighten us again with your football wisdom? If there wasn't talk about recruiting at this time of year what would there be to talk about? No one is forcing you to read this. Add something valuable or rebut what you don't agree with specifically. Comments bagging an entire topic just prove that you're the idiot for reading what you obviously don't like.

sure will!! i'm happy to comment when "I" feel it is appropriate! thank you for you positive feedback. it's not the recruitment that's troubling me... it's the 'crap' that comes with the recruiting! people 'complaining' about dollars and cents!

good clubs = good players = good money = good results.

hard work alone won't get you a flag.... but hardwork + money = success

Second that!! But a few thoughts on some comments!!

Buying a Premiership!! mmm! - Dont all clubs recruit the best possible players within their budget to give them the best possible chance of winning a premiership or improving their possition!! If thats buying a premiership then I would have thought every club is guilty of "Buying a Premiership"

Huge Player Payments!! mmm!! - (some of the figures thrown around on here must include chinese wisper tax and an allowance for the poor aussie dollar!!) - If a club can afford to pay these huge match payments they must be doing something right within their managment and more good to them! If a club like Langhorne can show good business accumen and forsight to create a great future for their club by growing grapes or making wine or whatever it is they do to generate an income for there club, let them spend their money how they feel is best for their club, they earn't it!!

Paying All Players (including locals eg what people have said on here about Willunga)!! mmm!! - I would say at a guess, that every club, bar none would love to be in the financial position to be able to reward every player on match day, weather it be $20 or $200 dollars, local or recruit. My thought are if a club can generate that sort of money no matter what it is more good to them. it then become a good football department decision as do you spend less on recruits and spread more to the locals or do we spend more on high profile recruits and less to locals!

Players leaving because of highly paid recruits!! mmm!! - How many players left Collingwood when Buckley got a million dollar deal?, How many players left Carlton when Kouta got a million dollar deal? How many players left the Bulldogs when Aka came to them on big dollars? mmm!!
I would have thought getting Moore & Sherwood & Feast would have boosted morale within the group because overnight you have improved your list and given yourself a better chance of winning a flag (and whats more, they are top blokes) at the end of the day isn't that a big chunk of what we play for!! Imagine being a young ruckman with a guy like Feasty being at your club, I would be at him every minute trying to learn from him, and wouldn't the club benefit in the long run with that young fella being a better ruckman down the track having learn't from the calibre of Feasty, a good investment I would have thought. Imagine what some of the young kids at Willunga have learnt from there senior players, they are going to be very strong for a long time!, not just Willunga, look at Morphett Vale or any club, I'm sure young blokes at every club learn things from these types of players coming to the club, wouldn't you call it an investment in your clubs future (the so called HUGE match payment per game all of a sudden does'nt seem that much for the return the club will get!)If you can't make your clubs best 21 when your club is at its strongest then the cold hard facts of footy is you may not be good enough, for a player to leave and go to a lesser league to give him self more chance of playing "A" grade, I'm sure the club would be dissapointed but wish you well, but to leave beacause the club has recruited some quality players (sour grapes) that seems a bit bizzare

Putting Systems in place to bring good clubs back to the pack!! mmm!! - Shouldn't the league offer support to the struggling clubs, helping them to promote their club, improving club image, fundraising ideas, finding possible quality recruits etc. do everything possible to get them clubs up to the standard of the top clubs, after all don't you want your league to be the strongest, heathiest most competitive league out. Point systems wont do that! it will just prevent clubs from bringing in more quality players to make you league the strongest and of the highest standard. I think I read a comment on here that one club had to turn away some quality players (may have been on the southern site) beacause they couldn't fit them in the points allocated, to me if they were "A" Grade standard players then your league is however many players weaker because of it. I don't have the perfect answer but I don't feel this point system is it either!!

Knowing What a Player is getting paid!! mmm!! There is probably 3- 4 people including the player who knows excactly what they are getting paid in any club, and sometimes even what the player states isn't always the truth, I've heard of blokes inflating there payments (must be good for their ego) and I've heard guys deflate their payments (humble players, or stringing together a few bad performances ha ha) so even the 'so called' horses mouth may not be entirely accurate!! mmm!! a lot of speculation falls of the grape vine!!

MMM!! Ahhh that feels better!! Nightshift... to much time on my hands to ponder!!

F I N A L L Y :

Some genuine thinking into a post! great work mate .. 3 votes for you!

this is the stuff i'd like to read about... not many people commenting on on this other than Limb ... must be another thinker!! well done Limb.

I totally agree ... those that come to clubs with experience (whether paid squillions or not) are looked up by players and supporters of that club. The greatest admiration a 'paid' player can get is when the locals 'non paid' actually treat them as a 'non paid' player because they are showing the same sacrifices for their club!

The money SHOULD ONLY BE A BONUS! playing football to be successful IS THE NUMBER ONE GOAL!

Bit quiet on here today boys and girls...

I have been having a look at clearances out of the GSFL, some decent players leaving Compass, will they be able to cover Braidwood, Usher, Schmidt and Gregor??? I think they will be fine covering Schmidt and Gregor but Braidwood and Usher are quality players.
