Apparantley these blokes are still training with the creeks but keeping it hush until they get a good offer and are very keen to move on. This once again proves a point and it happened at the bays two years ago when bassani first took the reins, he got the job and with him came 8 or 9 blokes, these 8 or 9 blokes, got good coin, most of them didnt stick around after the game and didnt train except for heuskes and JB and although the team looked good on paper, it didnt jell and most of the local blokes tossed it in because they knew most of the recruits besides the two mentioned above were in it for the coin and not the team.

its sounds good to buy a premiership but can be harmfull in the long run, i think credit has to go to willunga, if they did splash the cash atleast most of the blokes have stuck around and are good team men. Think the club has adopted a culture which most clubs would love to have.

Cuzzy it is obvious you don't know nothing about the Creek players, but surely you could name the "local Bay boys who tossed it in". Bassani was last year praised for his work with the local boys.

several players most of the blokes who payed b grade were not interested mate and a few A grade players who were locals only played because they owed the club that supports them! In naming names, i can name Smart, Modra and Davis who definatly would not return while bassani was in charge (before you harp on and say those guys havent returned this year, mods cant due to back and smart has his property on the market in victor as he purchased another farm in the south east, davis is back). I for one was happy with Bassani as a coach and i think what he did with a team of young locals towards the end of the season was exceptional. It was also great how he blooded alot of younger guys last year, the club has benifeted from this, this year as half the trainig track is filled with young blokes who only had to come up from colts this year, these blokes have played 4 or 5 A grade games and are ready this year.

What the club didnt benifet from was the social side and team bonding, having blokes like rankine rock up in his footy gear play and then leave straight after the game without having a shower and sticking around just long enough to get his pay check. Think you will find the bays social side of things was crap last year with two good events throughout the year, this affected the team as a side and also the club in making money.

what is your association with the bays this year mate?

Would it be fair to say that any country clubs social structure relies solely on the local players to make it happen rather than look to blokes who drive over an hour each way? Would it be fair to say that seeing youngsters who are locals travel to KFC and Maccas for dinner rather than eat at the club was more a problem of lost funds? Would it be fair to say that a club that operates its netball and football clubs separately will never benefit from high social numbers? Isn't Davis and Modra both on the darker side of 40? Is it true Smart has not in lived in Victor for almost three years?

Mind you this is all generally speaking...

Socially speaking, do most clubs who do well in this area usually plan their events in advance rather than tell their players on a Thursday night before the coming weekend that their is an event on?

Just wandering what some successful clubs do in order to ensure they get a good turn out?

Cuzzy do your locals always do the right by your club? Do you not have paid locals?

dont think mods is 40 is he? davis not sure, but jugding by his pre season his body is more like a 25 year old, good luck laying a tackle on him. Smart although played at keith last year has been living in victor up until this year.

I must say, very nice way to dodge my questions though - similar to your last attempt at the creek.

I wouldn't have a clue if R. Love in in Sydney all I know is he would want to be back in time for the season if he is. Seeing as though he and his cousin/brother are playing with the Ramblers in the RMFL.

On a serious note, at the bays we are seriosly struggling for trainers, has all clubs got this problem? It seems hard to get any treatment, think the bays have one bloke at the moment. Its a pitty because it seems the same people do it each year and when they retire or have something else on there is noone else. (Cuzzy)

You're not alone. I know of one president who has canvassed UniSA and offered remuneration and put flyers up offering the same but has not even had one phonecall. Seems as if trainers are a dying breed.

They are trying to buy a flag... it's not the first time... they've actually bought a few. it'll take a lot of quality (and coin) to knock off the demons in 09 but..

Thanks for the clearing that up cuzzy. I will follow the Bays in some capacity, mainly at junior level.
It's been said before, but the 9 other clubs would not spend as much as Willunga. To keep the quality of players they have on the park would not come cheap. Didn't Haskett and Portlock knock back $40,000 offers last year from Canberra, so does that mean they are on $2,000 a game?

When u produce a statement of what each club pays i will give you some credit with ur calls of 'Willunga pay the most' in the league. Til then ur speculating and thats all you're doing and its boring!!!!!

Where did you hear the news of Haskett and Portlock getting offered $40,000? Can you send me the contracts they were offered so i can view it first hand?

I would imagine that those alleged contracts would have included working a 'real' job also so not really a match payment.

I sit back and read all this s**t about how much Willunga pay their players to stay, from people who probably dont even know whats going on around their own club.

The fact is Willunga have a very good culture & they retain players, they do not need to keep buying new ones in every year once a player has milked what he wants and moves on.

No doubt they would pay players, but it would probably be a lot less than what is thrown out on here.
