I wouldn't be so sure about Compass being pretenders. They have only lost Blakely and Schmidt from last season with Schmidt being the only real loss. They have been very smart in their recruiting and this has been made a little easier with the culture that Samuels has developed over the past 3 years. Not as difficult to attract players now. They have retained Fromm, Bailey Cheetham etc. and along with the Creek boys they have picked up a mate of theirs from Pt Noarlunga who kicked 40odd goals last year. Travis ????? He is a little nuggety but looks good. Also Scott McMahon, Scooter McCade, Brayden Ritter and a quality on baller from Darwin/ East Perth. Add to this some good kids coming out of the U17's and maybe Shane Binns the Dog's are going ok.

I wouldn't count Scott McMahon as a notable inclusion!

Good point LF and that is the problem hitting clubs in the 2nd year of the points. Compass would have a carry over of Cheetham 2 and Fromm 1, then add Creek brothers 3 each only 2 more to play with, Harris is good mates with Creek so that would be 3 more, 1 over and not enough for a legue footballer from WA or Darwin and what about Goowin he would have carry over points? It will get messy! Doesn't matter how smart Samuels is the points system is transparent.

Adrian Creek has played reserves at south at somestage in the last 2 seasons, not sure of what his brother has been doing the last 2 years.

I noticed the "G Norman" going to the Creeks, i wonder if this the guy who played a handful of league games with Glenelg a few years ago, i think played at Brighton as well. Also played a season in the River Murray League about 5 years ago Would be a handy CHB for LC if its the same guy.

Correct. My source from the creek tells me that Norman & Miller are both from Glenelg and are 0 pointers!

Great post WOW!

Didn't hear that Greg "THE SHARK" Norman was involved in the trade/merger/recruiting drive for the might Creeks!!!

"The Shark" is a good key posistion player and would easily slide into Willunga's mix, another good quality player into the GSFL, carn the MIGHTY CREEKS!!!!!

Can anyone shed any light on the other bloke on the move to the Hawks, I think his name is Megatroyed???? Sounds AWESOME... I bet he's a massive, left footer CHB, with a shaved head and tatts... C'MON THE CREEKS!!!!!

Yes, Ryan is only a B grader, but may have filled in the A's towards end of season.. Good size about him, but not much upstairs or skills-wise... Barely worth the points he will carry. if its 3 then he ain't worth playing in the 1's. Especially considering the $$$$$$$$$$$$ he is reprtedly on!!!

Damian,

how do u work out the definition of 'pretenders' .... from my research the definition is as follows:

pre·tend·er (pr-tndr)
n.
1. One who simulates, pretends, or alleges falsely; a hypocrite or dissembler.
2. One who sets forth a claim, especially a claimant to a throne.

hmm... not sure if you are on the right track mate!

how do u work out the definition of 'pretenders' .... from my research the definition is as follows:

pre·tend·er (pr-tndr)
n.
1. One who simulates, pretends, or alleges falsely; a hypocrite or dissembler.
2. One who sets forth a claim, especially a claimant to a throne.

oh... just doing a little more research: may be the following is slightly more appropriate!

a·chieve (-chv)
v. a·chieved, a·chiev·ing, a·chieves
v.tr.
1. To perform or carry out with success; accomplish. See Synonyms at perform.
2. To attain with effort or despite difficulty. See Synonyms at reach.
v.intr.
To accomplish something successfully; perform at a standard or above standard level: skills needed to achieve in school.

success isn't always measured by 'Grand Finals' ... success can be measured at where you have just come from and 'hopefully' where you are going with what personnel you have! ... From what my contacts tell me, there wouldn't be too many players from Mt Compass that would 'walk' into any of the last years Grand Finals teams.

pretender
Noun
a person (or club) who makes a false or disputed claim to a throne or title

From the same site as yours. The league in 2009, as i see it, is a 3 horse race. Creeks and Strath as it has been the last few years are the only two teams i can see challenging Willunga for the premiership. Compass think they are a chance, hence why they are 'pretending' because honestly, they are not. (i'll happily eat my words if they prove me wrong on September 19!)

You can say that Compass have had success in recent years, true to a degree but i would use 'have improved' in recent years. True success comes with winning that last game of the year. Just my thoughts :)

Wouldn't be an English teacher by any chance Ball Breaker?? Hope I don't use the wrong word!!
I was a bit suprised at Damians comments too, weren't Compass bottom a couple of years back and have been in the top 3 or 4 more recently. Played them in a trial the last couple of years and has been nothing in it, they may have even won the last couple, but look a very young side. Saw the Creek boys on site the other day, fit looking buggers, would have thought they would be a pretty handy inclusion in any side, they did say that pre-seasons been bloody tough but good fun and great bunch of blokes (someone needs to tell them lads pre-season and fun shouldn't be used in the same sentence!!) What club are you tied up with and how have you guys gone against them? Had a quick look on the GSFL website and looked like they beat everyone except Willunga last season!

I've heard that he has trained with Compass for the last few sessions. It would make sense with his missus's involvement with the netty.

Scooter has only trained there once, and has been trainin at the Mclarens for a few, but who knows what goes through Scootas head. From what i have been told Compass is definately not the number one pick.

The elusive Shane Fox made his debut appearance for 2009 at GOOLWA training tuesday.
Looked fit, strong, smooth, moved well. Looks certain to add an element to the Magpies they are crying out for.

Hey Trix.
My mail is that he came, got his premiership and probably will not be slipping the boots on.

I would think that if Guitink does not scrub up, we may see bomber out for the last half.
It seems to be a familiar theme for the demons. Carpenter, Thompson, Bull have all done it over the last few years.
It is not a bad idea for quality players and by easing the workload, get another year or two out of them, although you have to feel for the young ones who then miss out at the pointy end of the year
Given their results , why not?

Heard on good authority today, from a coach that tried to lure Benny Moore to his club for season '09.

That B. Moore is on $1,000 per game and big gun P. Sherwood is reportedly getting $1,300 per game at the Creeks this year. Just imagine holding your hand out for one of those envelopes....

I don't suppose that anyone can confirm or deny this claim, but shit... The ex bay boys (who are both mid 30's and have had hamstring issues?) had better play some pretty impressive footy in the piss & shit this year!

I wonder how the GSFL feel about this sort of money getting flung around in our comp?

Further more, how do the contributers of this thread feel about that sort of coin being offered to attract players into our comp.?

At least these two are good blokes, & have the runs on the board, been awesome footballers for a long time now. Not just sluts that think cos' they are getting paid to play that they must be good! (Won't mention any names at this point)

Interested in some of your thoughts boys....
