Example

Old System (budget $35,000) = 8 players @ $250 per game (approximates)
New System (budget $35,000) = 4 players @ $500 per game (approximates)

So if clubs maintain the budget they spent prior to the points system coming in then it would appear that more has ben spent where has in fact this is false.

You can't have that many players Panther, as the points system does not allow it. A player recruited in 2008 drops only 1 point and you are only allowed 11 if you are in the top 6 and 14 in bottom 4.
All clubs starting to agree the system needs to be looked at, as it varies in every league and Amateurs don't have points! They pillage from everywhere.

Only 11 points? Do locals attract no points at all then in the GSFL?

the bottom 4 teams get 35 i think in total and top 6 get 32 so with the 21 on the field already being 21 points the top 6 teams have 11 more points to spend on recruits so someone playing a grade in another league or team would be 3 points to take them to 8 left and so on. check out the southern forum it was written about a month ago as if it was out of a textbook

Bat Pad and Assert
Re the points system
I have a copy of the proposed new point system in the GSFL which I will try to scan and put on the site.

Pretty much this is how it works.
Top 6 have eleven points
Bottom 4 14 points

At the end of 2007 all registered players became no points, so the points were allocated to recruited players only
It sort of goes like this.
With and number of games played in the last year or two and a few rules which will take 2 pages to explain
AFL players...5 Pts
SANFL 4 points
SFL, HFL, RMFL and Ithink from div 4 Amateur and up 3 pts
Other leagues 2pts
Juniors minus 1 pt

Each year each recruit loses a point per year

Example a bottom club in GSFL in both 2007 and 2008
in 2008 they recruited 2 p[layers from Reynella who had played a full season of A grade in 2007
They used 6 points
They also recruited a player from the Mid south east league, 2 pts

Total 8 pts

Those players are staying in 2009, so they lose 1 point each

They carry 5 points into 2009,
so they now have 9 points to recruit for 2009...which is their 14 points
Plain and simply they can recruit 3 players from the SFL, HFL etc which makes up their 9 points plus the 5 from last year equals 14

This for A Grade games only
You can play as many recruits in the reserves

Hope this helps a bit

From my source (who has signed at Nhill also) Hargraeves has signed , whether that makes him a sure thing is another topic.

you lose a point each year so i think that means you play 3 years and you are effectively a local

Assert
It is the years played in this case
Each year played, a recruited player loses a point.

So if they are a 3 pt player after 2 years they lose a point each year, no matter how many games they play, they only attract 1 point for their 3rd year

Saints Russell Todd 2
Saints Coote Mark 2
Saints Fennell Ben 0

How many of these guys are playing in 2009
If all 5 players with points are still going to be there and playing A grade you will still have 8 pts on your books
Only leaves 6 points left, pretty much 2 players to recruit
Best you get 2 top of the range players
