Is it true Saints are dumping Port Elliot and will become Goolwa?

Whoever mentioned earlier about us coming accross some money may be correct, but Luvayarn is spot on. We would love to be able to use it to bolster our squad but we cant. Can only add 4 players to the list for 09. The money (if in fact we have got any), will be used in other areas) As for droppoing the Port elliot name this is an option but unlikely. There is a vote on December 12 to decide. Likely scenario is Goolwa / Port Elliot Magpies, which has kept all parties happy and will see us regain and obtain many supporters, sponsors etc

looking at the points system am i right in working it out that a hills player (3 points) is the same as an sanfl player (3 points) if so this is correct thats a bit harsh, wouldnt think this is right??

There are a few strange ones Cuzzy. The boys from Penola I believe are 2 pointers (same as Hills Div 2). South East footy I would have thought is strong.

i was talking to an old legend of the goolwa magpie days on the weekend and he was estatic that there was a chance of them returning to the "mighty black and gold" as he quoted. I wont name who he is but he did ask me if old man mcardle is still around the club? i am not sure who he is even talking about maybe someone from goolwa can shed some light, but he did say a lot of blokes from his era (30 years ago) would return and sponsor support the club if mcardle wasnt around.

Nah quite the opposite Cuzzy. Mick is an ex president and has behind the scenes helped to secure some of the sponsors in question. One, who I wont name, is on board directly becuase of Mick so I think having his assistance will be beneficial

You probably mean "great black and white" cuzzy. At the Bay AGM it was talked about that if Saints become Goolwa and dump Elliot there was plans in place to move onto the Elliot primary school to bolster junior numbers at the Bay.
Points system needs overhaul already, but remember 8 clubs voted for it in its current format.
Only themselves to blame including Yank and Saints.
Points need to be higher say 15 for the top clubs and 20 for the bottom 4.
SANFL league player is 4 points and reserves is 3 I think.

It doesn't matter who you are or how much you try to do you will never please everyone and I think that may be the case with Mick. He has done allot for the Goolwa and Goolwa/Pt Elliot football club's over the years and at times some people may not have seen eye to eye with him but show me a president of any organisation that doesn't have people around them disagreeing with certain things. When you see the extent Mick goes to for the club at times you have to take your hat off to him and he has great support from 99% of people around Goolwa including past and present Supporters/Players. Having Mick back involved on the level he that he is, really is a true asset to the club and will certainly help drive them forward.

Mick gets bagged because he likes to have control and be authoritive, which a lot of people dont like. But his style gets results and gets jobs done. Teamwork the Saints are not complaining about the points system, we can see its value. I was just stating that it restricts us somewhat but it will be benfecial down the track. Its in place and we will deal with it.

It was discussed at President's Drinks after the meeting. Not stirring stating a fact and all clubs should be working harder at all schools in the region as many kids are going to soccer.

This is one reason why i believe the Saints will hold onto the Port Elliot name. It leaves the door open in case new players move to the area, the bigger the area the more chance of a handy footballing moving into your clubs 'zone' so to speak. Sure i doesn't stop another club enticing the players to play for them, but some people could move into the area and want to play for the local club, which as it currently stands is the saints. Alot of ex elliot players moved onto Victor or Enc Bay when the clubs merged but the juniors from Port Elliot Primary are playing with Goolwa/Port Elliot and are playing a vital part in the development of the club, it is important for them to be able to represent their town in a sport they love.
