In the A grade there is too vastly different teams Strath -free flowing and move the footy really well, Creek who love it tough.

In the B grade Willunga will want to make up for their efforts on Saturday and Langhorne Creek are really starting to hit their straps

In the Senior Colts, Mt Compass boys will be looking to capitalise on a successful season however the McLaren boys are firing at the moment and from what i saw on the weekend are playing some really good footy.

In the Junior colts, Willunga are more fancied however can LF's little fellas cause another sensational upset and continue their fairytale run.

The oval should be in pristine condition. It hasn't been played on for a while now, only training sessions. Was at the ground last week and they have let it grow a bit. Afterb the mow it will recieve this week should cme up like Adelaide oval :D . Hope the senior colts can get up this weekend they are playing great team footy at the moment. Young fella up forward, Konky, is an absolute freak and look forward to seeing him play some more senior footy next year. Any newes from the compass senior colts Mr T.

That's right.

I didn't take a photo last night because the groundsman told me it was getting mowed on Thursday... so thought I'd wait until then O:)

It does look good though.

Jeez, McLaren would be very silly if they went that way. Hey Mum, KK, Mr Magoo, eagles23 do you guys know anything about this.

I also heard Saunders is linked with the vacant Morphett Vale job.

I doubt very much that Lynch would take the McLaren job over the Hackham job, even though it may be a more "challenging" role the dollars difference would be considerable, McLarens haven't been known to pay coaches or players very much at all!

No it wont so if its lumpy then surely they would move it. I thought the problem was the softness and boggy areas of the ground.

A Mum line up the night before, sleep in swags and save me a spot!!

Depends what grade you want to see? The snr colts will sell the ground out and the B grade with strath playing will see a few supporters, if Strath A grade make it half the ground will be full but still holes avaliable. If its another Creek V Willunga GF you will be able to park front row, the crowd at Goolwa on the weekend was not the strongest. Is this because everyone knows its going to be a 10+ goal win to Willunga if its dry?

Opinions please

Is it always about money... or does passion for the game and longevity of the sport come into it ??

Someone should write a thesis on
WHY FOOTBALL CLUBS HAVE ALL VOLUNTEERS WORKING THERE FINGERS TO THE BONE TO PAY PLAYERS.

Juniors play for nothing...for the fun and mateship and have a great passion for the game.
At 17 to 20 or maybe a bit earlier along comes work and money.
MORE IMPORTANTLY ALONG COMES THE FEMALE AND THE YOUNG MEN FIND A PART OF THEIR BODY HAS 2 USES.

If they are a good player, they find someone offers them money to play
If they are average or below all of a sudden they don't get picked..whether that be in the A's or Reserves and some of the passion goes.
After working all day sometimes training is hard to get to, so you don't go...not picked.

To cut it short
Many clubs have been ruined by paying too much
Clubs, Just have to get the balance right between using all locals and paying imports to be sustainable financially and having success on the field.

Thanks for responding to my question Mr Magoo :D (I thought no one was interested...so I deleted it  )

What you say isn't as funny as it sounds... I think it'd actually make a good thesis..... very interesting!!

I still think this is another reason that we have to install culture and loyalty into our players at this young age while we have them there (And make their families feel welcome and part of the clubs).... if we do a good job at that and let them know how important they are to our clubs then I think less would go off elsewhere.... whether there's money involved or not.

With my question though... I was acutally refering to coaches.... do some coaches do it for the passion of the game and the future of footy so to speak.... or is it now all about how much money they get paid??

I was just interested, that's all O:)

Hey Mr Magoo and A Mum,

i reckon the point system will eventually make some difference to club loyalty and paying players. Correct if i am wrong but with only 14 points allocated to A grade, clubs will be forced to play Juniors and club people who are worth 0 points.

Hopefully you're right Mr T.

I grew up on Kangaroo Island (and it may have changed since) but loyalty was everything over there... so I suppose that has just stuck with me and it does break my heart to see people (especially juniors that have grown up with a club) so readily switch and swap clubs.

I suppose it's a bit different in the GSFL area because these kids although from different clubs go to school together and so I supposed it is an easier transition to go from one club to another because they will always know people at all the clubs.

My own son (Now a senior) is even talking about going to play elsewhere with a bunch of friends... and although I don't want to pressure him in anyway, it has to be his decision, it will break my heart :(

Sorry if I sound a little melodramatic !!

Don't know.... but anyway... hopefully the points system does make some difference.

Lynch to Mclarens...good luck, is it just me or does he only approach the jobs of clubs at the bottom of the tabl, is that so he can do another mediocre job of getting a club a few wins then say he has rebuilt it?

With the look at the lack of effort he put in with Aldinga juniors you would not want him at an up and coming Mclarens club.

I think it has just been made too easy to get money playing football. Some clubs dont do enough research on players and pay money purely to get numbers. Its not hard to put a resume together that sounds good, even I can do that! Last season some boys from Goolwa went out to Callington for money. Most were on $150 - $250 per game. Lots of other Goolwa lads had the chance to go as well, but what if they had won a flag at callington? It would have meant stuff all! On the other hand if you build something from scratch with your mates at a club that you've played at since you were 5 then thats a different story. Until clubs stop throwing money and any tom dick or harry, then money will always play a big role.

Hasn't Wayne Deacon's name been mentioned in regards to the McLaren job?

Not every club has a Ruckman or CHF so you need to recruit and pay players. The point system will stop alot of average footballers recieving money to play but it will also make the gun players more expensive to recruit. I still believe that the point system should be staggered, example 1st to 3rd recieve 6pts, 4th to 6th recieve 10pts etc etc. Im interested to know what other people think??

That is spot on about the points system stopping average Joe getting money which can only be helpful, but the battle will hanging on to young fellas who see the $$$$ signs. Creating a good club culture and atmosphere and local player incentives is now vital.
