firstly - i was not commenting on the reason Bostons kicked against it. I wasnt there - I hadnt done any Match Day planning for that game...and I wouldnt second guess the Boston crew - they would have had their reasons...

What I was commenting on was an outdated philosphy that you always kick with it.... as I said many factors could entice you to kick against the wind in the first quarter.

A modern day example buddy - watch Mallee Park - for years Mallee Park have kicked against the breeze. It has worked for them over the years. and for that reason see my earlier post and read reason number 1!!

Going against the breeze in actual fact can be quite a useful defensive tool.... if used correctly

so what's the difference with it being a defensive tool in the second term?

I might just be showing my age but under no circumstances would I ever kick against the wind.

First of all I'm not a coach and may be a bit old fashioned. Secondly there may be an odd occasion (very odd tho IMHO) where you may kick agin the breeze after winning the toss.
HOWEVER, the conditions (once again IMHO) suited kicking with it. My reasons are :
It was the first game of the season playing in front of your home crowd. You would want to establish an early ascendancy and back your players to do just that, get the club faithful cheering and get yourself a whole heap of confidence. Then perhaps in the 2nd 1/4, slip a loose man in defence if you want and try like hell to hang on to that lead. Also it had rained in the 'B' grade and there was a chance that it could have again and in that situation I would much prefer to have a lead rather than chasing. Please bear in mind it was a strong breeze, strongly favouring the clubhouse end.
As it was the reverse happened and I think that 1st 1/4 caused the Boston boys to lose a fair bit of confidence from thereon. Also a factor is that both sides have not enjoyed that much success in recent years and if I was Bostons I would definitely try to get out of the blocks ahead of a similarly ranked side (which they would have been trying to do but made it hard for themselves)

That's my theory anyway and the BFC coaching staff may well have other ideas. Do you know eski or is commenting putting you in an uncomfortable situation. Or did the captain perhaps make a mistake cos that's happened before.

That is an intelligent football answer and I challenge rossco to reply. Steiger you make some very valuable points and we are not old fashioned. The first term killed their confidence and it didn't recover for the whole match. Heads were down and it may cost them their confidence all season. It could be a wasted season just because of one stupid decision.

Always kick with the wind son. under no circumstances kick against it. Your reasons are not good enough. Defensive tool? why cant it be a defensive tool in the second term when you have a lead? please explain or admit defeat

i admit that i'm discussing tactics with a troll... and not getting anywhere - therefore I'm more than happy for your team to continually do wat everyone thinks your going to. hence why the numbers 1986 and 1992 come flooding back to me....

you are a stale bad of wrinkles.
firstly, if the breeze is expected to freshen, would you not be stupid to kick against it? and use the strengthening breeze to greater advantage?
secondly, often teams are fumbly and nervous in the first quarter of football, so maybe bostons were gambling on the opposition wasting their advantage.. i admit, gambles shouldnt be the basis of your decision, but you need to take your tight shorts and mullet back to lincoln south's BINGO competition.. geriatric.

all well and good hiding behind that computer screen sherinn. do you play the game? have you ever played the game? ever got a kick? I was kicking 40 goals a year before you were even born you little twirp. You never kick against the wind under any ciurcumstances, if the wind freshens grow some balls and go harder. If you think the wind is going to stiffen so much in 5 minutes then you are well and truly the idiot I think you are
you would probably be watching home & away then your Beaver CD so night night little fella sweat dreams and we will see you in the morning, dont forget to do wee wee's
