Lots of talk about the money and that’s potentially going to be sorted with no player payments and reduced umpire fees etc. But....we are 4 days away from a decision and as we stand a country or metro venue can hold 80 people. When you consider players, coaches, team managers, runners, water, time keepers, scoreboard attendants and umpires right there you are at approx 70 people. When you’ve got 6 grades on a Saturday there’s no way to squeeze that in and there’s not enough left overs to make an income to cover even the basics.

As it’s been stated everywhere. No crowds will mean no footy. I’m sure the sanfl would of had positive discussions with SA health. Other wise they would not of put all this effort to get a season going in. My guess is crowds of 500 will be allowed by the time the season starts

So in 3-4 weeks time, you envisage a change from 80 to 500?

You can have up to 160 now, 80 on the field and 80 inside the club rooms/outside areas.

Unreal people are going on about crowds still! Everyone knows that without this restriction being lifted there will be no footy.

The SANFL know this, hence why they have set a pathway to playing with crowds. They are in daily contact with SA Health/Government.

Next week I suspect we will have a date combined with an announcement of crowds being allowed. It will be each individuals responsibility to maintain COVID protocols, the clubs won't be expected to police this.

And NSW are still getting new cases!

Seriously, SA Health are like the stockbroker telling you: don't get back into the market until it hits 7,500 or you might lose some money

It's not Covid destroying the country anymore

Well if the big protest planned for in the city this weekend doesn't cause a spike, then crowds at grassroots footy should get the all clear

Gobsmacking isn't it

They will allow 10,000 to attend a protest but only 80 to the football
Maybe football fans need to stage a protest

It’s official. No player payments in 2020

83% of leagues voted no payments and 70% of clubs statewide

Travel allowance allowed

$600 a week on awards allowed

So pretty much you can 'pay' 4 players per week $150

The travel and incentives remain the same as per previous years, also playing coaches can still be paid the coaching portion of their existing contract.

so country footy won't go ahead then. It's a no win situation. Clubs can't afford to play players, but the players aren't going to come and play for nothing either. Start from scratch next year.

So there isn't enough local players to make one team?

Exactly Dutchy. Why don't they be creative and just play one senior grade and then junior grades.

Can receive the coaching portion of their contract but $0 for playing. No new contracts can be negotiated after June 1st.
