Our pentecostal nutter PM claims he predicted COVID-19 four years ago.

After bagging RUdd for a decade, it will be interesting to see how he paints their stimulus package.

Blind Freddy can see that it needs a 'bottom-up' approach rather than their very likely 'trickle-down'. Money needs to be spent immediately. If it is given to those in need, they WILL spend every cent.

$500 to Newstart recipients. Pokie barons in lower socioeconomic areas, KFC, Macca's and the local dealer man are rubbing their hands together.*

*Offered as comedic value, not a reflection of all Newstart recipients.

And will give the Liberals an excuse to push through their drug testing of Newstart recipients trial.

As it should. Why should people who test positive to any drugs receive any payment from the government

The concept has been extensively studied. Rates of drug and alcohol problems in welfare recipients are no greater than those among the general population or among people who do not receive welfare benefits.

a) it unfairly constructs welfare recipients as deviants
b) it doesn't work
c) it costs the taxpayer more than it saves

Why are they treated so special?
Many workplaces including mine has mandatory drug testing which can lead to being sacked and getting no pay. Why should welfare recipients be any different.

If you adopt that stance, and fair enough if you do, then testing must encompass everyone in the public service, including administration and the parliament, plus government contractors and consultants, because they all receive payments from the government.

Unsurprisingly, the trial only focuses on the more vulnerable who receive government assistance. Seems pointless if it does not target those who are in positions of power and influence or buildings stuff like bridges or giving high-level advice whom the community would not expect them to be off their tits high on goofballs.

I agree in the point that all government workers should be tested.
We have had mandatory testing for years and it works fine, I can’t believe more businesses don’t do it.

Good for the goose, good for the gander. We all know why only those on the Newstart are targeted, the Libs base responds to kicking dole bludgers.

This also begs the question of what business does the government have interfering in people's personal lives. Not your typical classical liberal - small government - free market - personal liberty - IPA approach to policy.

Then again, that side of politics in Australia today seems keen to shit on its Menzian principles by wanting to subsidise and operate coal fired power stations that (a) are typically performed by private enterprise and (b) and which the market says is bad idea. Or telling people who they can marry.

Because it's expensive, dehumanising and pointless for most.

Scott Morrison trying to sell his stimulus package:

"Now, this is, as I said, 1.2% of GDP. To give you some comparison, when the initial stimulus was done for the GFC many years ago, those payments equated to some 0.88% of GDP in that package which was, as you know, supported by the Coalition, and that used similar measures"

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure it was you feckless liar

Being a truck driver we regularly get drug & alcohol tested. I've never felt dehumanised. I'd actually prefer more testing for drivers.

Raising Newstart won't work.

There's no need to raise Newstart.

No, we're not looking at an increase in Newstart.

F*ck, give everyone on Newstart $750 now!!!

Because addiction is an illness that needs treatment, just like any mental illness.
