Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, but Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett announced his resignation today, for family reasons. He will be replaced by Deputy Premier and Treasurer, Lara Giddings.

For the first time in Australian history, three states will simultaneously have a female Premier, along with the Prime Minister.

You can say all you like against the current establishment, but to gain power, someone has to present a case to take power.

Rann may be no good, but unless you present a case "for" voting against him, he'll stay! Is that what we want?

Politics is so one dimensional to the uninitiated. That's where politicians miss the boat. Cater to the masses and you'll govern. FFS, spin doctors, it's not that difficult.

Most uninformed voters will go for the figurehead, not the party.

It wouldn't be too hard to put up a stronger candidate than Isobel Redmond.

Looks like Keith Hospital may have been saved, at least temporarily, although not from Rann's doing.

Hopefully a victory for common sense.
