Yeah but there not cuts remember or cuts to services because thats what Abbott meant when he said no cuts. But he didn't rule out well cuts so there you go we all just misunderstood him and we are all idiots.

Only Malcom Turnball was smart enough understand what Abbott was talking about.

All the local state based 7.30 Reports are being axed, Lateline will be moving to ABC News 24 and ABC Adelaide's TV production studio will be closed.

The thing that I dont get is that so many shows and services are being effected but I keep hearing figures of reduction of 5% over 5 years. I mean if you had to look at 1% of fat cutting per year surely this could be done without large job losses and services cut.

It just doesnt add up. Sort of feels like the libs want savings of 1% each year and he ABC CEO is setting the village on fire.

Lets be honest you wouldnt shutdown a radio station for 1%.

Just seems off at the moment.

and then Pyne, who is in Cabinet is running around trying to save the ABC in Adelaide after sitting in Cabinet and deciding that the cuts should go ahead. and that's forgetting about Juliar Abbott on the eve of the election or is it tony Gillard??

but the ABC chief has then gone and axed all the regional stations. the regional stations affect the farmers etc, who all vote liberal....

They have been centralising everything in Sydney for years anyway
At least Peppa Pig is OK. They didn't want militant pre-schoolers demonstrating outside their doors

Who knows, Pyne might be outspoken in the cabinet meetings regarding the ABC.

Problem is though the MD has tried to hit Tony where it will hurt him most. I'm sure there are some services that are based in Sydney and Melbourne that should be looked at. The ABC should not be a bottomless pit where Canberra just continually throws money at it.

I used to be a Friend of the ABC, and my clock radio is still on ABC SA 891.
What I can't stand now is the repetitious and boring Sydney and Canberra-centric 24 Hours News on TV and Radio.

They could be cut to support more important regional services, but it seems the execs want the ABC to be just another player on the big stage more than to provide a needed and valuable service in areas that don't have a lot of alternatives.

especially given he has had ample opportunity to show even the slightest hint of this in the media beforehand.

this will go down as a bigger lie than the carbon tax, especially when you also take into account the education and health cuts too.

so weird given last week they announced that it would definitely be built in australia. I think abbott and johnston are at odds here.

it is ridiculous for a defence minister to be saying that though, even if he privately feels that way. is he even tenable as defence minister now?

well you couldn't possibly believe anything Johnston says now in relation to this issue.

I find it amusing that he has been invited numerous times to have a tour, but the closest he got was standing at the gates with Steven Marshall and that election promise he made.....

I realise this is the Federal governments decision, but could this and the ABC decision potentially have a negative impact on the local bi-elections in which the Libs are red hot favs to win?

What was the most humorous was what he said to take a step back from the comments. He was blaming the administration and then the past government for what he said. He meant it different to what it sounded. Its like Turnball about the ABC cuts, we all just took what they said incorrectly.

Is this the new mantra of the Abbott government?

I have seen the clip now
When put in context, it makes sense
The ASC cant tell him how much over budget they are
Somewhere between $350m to over $600m
No wonder Wong doesnt mind - that's a drop in the ocean of what she wasted in her time

Given it is costing 8 billion it is still less than 10% overrun. Of course it is still bad but it needs to be put in context a bit
