Outspoken Palmer United Party Senator Jacqui Lambie has shocked radio listeners by asking a caller if he was “well hung” during an interview.

Ms Lambie was being interviewed on Hobart’s 107.3 Kim and Dave Show this morning when she said she had been single for 11 years and was now looking for a relationship.

“They must have heaps of cash and they’ve got to have a package between their legs, let’s be honest,” Ms Lambie said.

The 43-year-old was then introduced to 22-year-old caller “Jamie”, who said he was interested in dating her.

“Do you have plenty of cash?” she asked. “I’m just a bit concerned that at 22 years of age and living in Tasmania you might not be quite there yet.”

He responded that he did.

“I’m just a bit concerned because you’re so young,” Ms Lambie continued. “I’m not sure you’d be able to handle Jacqui Lambie … are you well hung?”

The joking exchange set off a torrent of comments on Twitter with many questioning whether the reaction would be the same if it was a male politician talking about a woman.

Farrrrkkkk. Unlike the bleeding hearts currently bombarding the newspapers with articles on double-standards and sexism, I wasn't particularly offended by anything she'd said - I'm sure I've said worse at the pub - but as a politician, with a very public profile, she needs to conduct herself more seriously. Penis size belongs at the pub or over a few drinks with mates, not on the radio. Oh, I don't know, actually - I think I'd rather like to hear someone tell Kyle Sandilands he's got a dick the size of a dollhouse doorknob and a brain to match - but someone actively involved in the governing of our country should show a bit more decorum.

Kyle Sandilands.....lol

I agree, it was more of a reflection on her and her intellect than anything else. It just made her look so "average".

Although, no doubt the uproar would be unsurpassed if a male pollie said "As long as she's got cash and a great rack she doesn't even need to talk"...

I had a vague idea that Bill Heffernan said something similar once, but I can't remember.

My issue is not what she said but the fact that she is part of a group that holds he balance of power and really seems to be stupid. That concerns me so much more than shes looking for a rich bloke with big dick.

Nobody has ever been elected with a lower vote though. At least not in my memory (which admittedly isn't long)
