I did say "more difficult" not impossible.
Sometimes the locals can be conned or pressured, or extra people eligible to join the local branch can be drummed up.
However, that is a long way from the systemic power brokering machine in the ALP which makes general membership voting rights meaningless.

I can't talk about other parties - I've been to a few Greens meetings about issues I care about, but the theme there seems to be less about power brokering and more about "alternative economics" and the idea that debt doesn't matter because the government can just print more money.

This is a mob that was in government only 4 months ago and their foreign minister resigned from Washington so that they could have a spill for the leadership, that's a bit of domestic politics conducted from overseas right there
