I haven't read Aker's article, but I have a feeling that was also the point he was trying to make.

I partially agree with Akka.
Not in the "it will destroy the fabric of a footy club" sense, but...
In a change room atmosphere, where there is nudity, butt slapping, and general filth being talked, I would find it awkward to be around a homosexual.
there are some things you don't do, like rip out your johnson and do the windmill if there was a female trainer in the room, because it would make them uncomfortable...
the reverse works for me. I would be uncomfortable if there was a bloke with a preference for other blokes slapping my butt, or viewing me in all my glory...
not many people will openly say it, but it's my opinion...

Recently had one of my close mates 'come out' and he is treated no different around our group of friends. If anything, probably made our friendship with him stronger.
But I can understand how some people, within a footy club environment, could find it to be somewhat uncomfortable.
And as for Aker, good on him! If only we had more outspoken people like him in the football community. I'd take him any day over the media 'deadshits' we seem to have here in Adelaide. Probably the two most boring football clubs (Crows & Port), in terms of personalities, in the entire AFL.
