TVCA at the xmas break

Gumeracha 6W-2L. Still the team to beat. Atkins the best player in the comp currently.
Paracombe 6-2. Six straight wins to start the year before a couple of losses. Experienced heads contributing.
Eden Valley 6-3. Have been a little up and down but will take a confidence boosting win v Gum into the break
Cambrai 5-4. Skipper Greiger having a huge year. Will play finals once again, but can they get over their semi final hoodoo.
Palmer 3-5. Given their personnel turnover they've been quite competitive, but lack the depth of previous campaigns.
Birdwood 2-7. Are continually posting competitive scores, but short on some bowlers. Scott Burns of AFL fame a quality bat.
Lenswood 2-7. Ended a 7 game losing run v Palmer. Batting has been embarrassingly bad at times. 28 players used already so zero consistency.

In the B’s Gumeracha and Cambrai lead the way with 8 wins each from 10 games. Paracombe, Eden Valley and Lenswood all have 6 wins and will battle out for 3rd and 4th, Birdwood have shown some decent recent form, while Palmer may have done enough to hand the other Lenswood team the kitchen-ware.

6 Rounds to go for the season

Nairne 40pts
Lobethal 32
Woodside 28
Langhorne Creek 28
------------------------------
Strathalbyn 24
Hahndorf 16
Bremer Callington 12
Macclesfield 12

Bottom 3 fighting it out for the spoon despite putting in credible performances all season.
Nairne having a great season but dropped their last game to Strath which helped the Stallions stay in touch with the four.

Hills ALL OUT for 20  in the Figg Cup (U/21s) v A&EHCA
And that was a good recovery after being 8/11
Utterly embarrassing effort. A&EHCA knocked the runs off without loss in 4 overs !!!!!

Are the Hills that bad in U/21s talent or did they just have a bad day ?

Awful day I'd suspect JJ, plenty of talented youngsters in that lot but just an awful day. We have all been there, maybe not to the level of 20 all out though :D

Bad day I think for those HCA boys rather than lacking talent. Some good looking players in their line just all having an absolute nightmare day at the same time.

2 Rounds to go in A&EHCA and positions 2 - 5 are still wide open.

Nairne 56 0.98 %
L Creek 44 0.37 %
Woodside 40 0.39 %
Lobethal 40 0.22 %
Strath 36 0.44 %

Nairne WILL finish Minor Premiers being 3 games clear on top.

Positions 2 - 5 are all up in the air

Clubs run home

L Creek - Strtah, Nairne

Woodside - Nairne, Strath

Lobethal - Cally, Hahndorf

Strath - L Creek, Woodside

Creeks task of finishing in the all important 2nd spot is to win their last 2 matches. A win against Strath may be enough depending on NRR
Woodside are getting the staggers, falling in 2 weeks back by 1 wicket to bottom placed Macclesfield and then being obliterated by Lobethal yesterday  Looking very much like their last round clash with Strath will decide a Finals spot.
Lobethal should win their last 2 matches and will be relying on the Creeks slipping up to let them into 2nd spot
Strath with the 2nd best NRR of all the teams may make all the difference in whats shaping as a season defining game against Woodside in the last round.

A few weeks ago NRR didn't seem as it was going to play a huge part in deciding finals placings but some MASSIVE thumpings in recent weeks have tightened the NRR between sides 2 - 5 right up.

Nairne v Creeks

Hmmmm These 2 could play each other 3 weeks running to decide the Premiership.
Creeks took Round 1 last week to extend their winning run to 7 on the trot to wrap up 2nd spot whilst Nairne are going into finals on the back of 2 poor batting performances.
Creeks still rely heavily on Warren who was simply masterful last week in decimating Nairnes bowlers with 92* off only 59 balls and then chipped in with 3/13 off 5 overs after Nairnes openers got away to a good start of 43 without loss before losing 10/67

Despite getting flogged by Creeks last week, Nairne will still start slight favorite this week to go straight through and host the Grand Final especially as Creeks may be in a bit of trouble with a couple of Top order batsmen in Covid isolation for this weekend at least as well as losing a 3rd batter to footy trials for South Adelaide.

Woodside v Lobethal were both hit by weddings during the year that cost them games and a top 2 spot will play off to go through to the Prelim Sunday.
Both have had their batting issues this season and with the game on the very slow Lobethal oval, it promises to be a low scoring affair.
Woodside havent been consistent enough throughout the season to win the flag from 4th imo even tho it's been done by Creeks and Nairne in the last few years. Lobethals biggest problem will be if they get through to Sunday is that they'll be hit by a wedding with most of their players invited i believe
At least the weather looks perfect this week unlike last season where rain played havoc on the 1st week of finals.

TVCA semis see Gumeracha host Cambrai, and Paracombe play Eden Valley.

Gumeracha start warm favourites for a 3rd straight flag and 5th in 11 years. The other semi should be very interesting, would lean towards the Pirates at home, but they have been known to drop home semi finals.

Lenswood ended up 5th and finished a disappointing season in reasonable form, Palmer dropped from runners up last season to 6th and will miss the finals for the first time in 11 years, while Birdwood were very competitive but finish with another spoon. Pretty sure that's now 8 in a row.

In the B's the same four clubs will fight for the flag, Gumeracha also minor premiers here and play Paracombe while Cambrai meet Eden Valley. The young Lenswood team were unlucky to miss out with 10 wins, Birdwood were improved and have some promising kids, while the other Lenswood team and Palmer really battled and only combined for 2 wins.

Unbelievable result in the AEHCA prelim with Lobey getting over Creeks. Lobey chasing 183 down with a couple of overs to spare without their two main batters in Weeks and Matthews and their keeper Norsworthy. Huge result!

Creek had 2 of their top 6 batters out both days because of Covid isolation so both teams under strength yesterday.

Having said that 183 should have been more than enough for Creeks to defend as they defended 150 on the same ground a month ago against a full strength Lobey.
A very ordinary start by the Creeks with the ball and in the field in the 1st 5 overs of Lobeys run chase set the tone for their run chase.
Cant just dish up numerous wides, no balls, half trackers, missed catches, over throws etc and get away with it in a final.

Creeks have done incredibly well being the only team to make the last 7 finals series in a row considering the high turnover of players they have from week to week, year after year but that instability and lack of training & preparation is not stacking up in finals atm

Credit to Nairne & Lobey for playing off in consecutive Grand Finals.

Gumeracha spanked Eden Valley, 4/181 to 75. Disappointing from the Valleys, was expecting a tighter contest. Shaun Atkins with 95 and 3/20. Three flags in a row for the Magpies, and 5 in 11 years during the post Lobey/Woodside era.

Gum also won the B's, chasing down Cambrai's 5/151 with 3 overs to spare.

Good point about the minor premiers. Good to see 5 different clubs winning across the grades as well.
