This Carnival has always been used for this reason, getting the country kids in from your zones to mix with the city kids, they hopefully enjoy the two weeks of cricket and end up coming permanently to the city to play Seniors in the future.

He was unhappy at his previous club and left and went and played country cricket for a few years. This was an opportunity for him to have another crack at a new club. Thankfully, through all of it he has rekindled his drive and wants to take his cricket as far as he can and I for one think that's great for him and the game

Sir Don's old club are the whispers. Poor if true. Let the kids just play

I'd be guessing it was the club he was previously registered with

Rumor has it said previous club only found out when he played B grade against them on Saturday.

Has he now been cleared to Prospect?

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things
But
West Torrens and northern jets both awarded 7.5 points for the non event a couple of weeks ago

Everyone knew the SACA would take the easy way out. The most jelly belly organisation ever to exist.

so the saca have breached their own bylaw, not surprising as they are hopeless

I hear the manager of premier cricket busbridge does not even report to anyone at the saca - anyone confirm?

Hussey Report Quote

'Unfortunately, a strong view from the people interviewed is that South Australian cricket has had a culture of mediocrity for many years and acceptance of it has been a barrier to success.'

In respect to the statement above from a report which cost the SACA $100k which could have been used to further develop coaching to improve young cricketers in this state, I ask the following question:

Why can teams not cover wickets in first grade cricket in Adelaide and there is no penalty? If your ground is in an area where there is a remote possibility of rain then you have a responsibility to cover the wicket. Why have Northern Districts been allowed to not make an effort to cover a pitch? The rain was happening while they were at training, which they ignored, and then continued on without doing anything about something, which is clearly their responsibility.

How do clubs take any direction seriously if those people in positions of governance pick and choose which instructions they are prepared to follow up on? Why spend money on the Hussey report if directions about covering wickets are going to be ignored etc etc etc? Someone asked about line management for employees ? That is a very valid question!

In the meantime a club complains about an administrative error and a team of young cricketers in an Under 18 competition lose all their points, and are therefore prevented from participating in a finals series - if this is not fostering mediocrity then I don't know what is.

Welcome to cricket in South Australia .. an endemic culture of mediocrity and poor performance.

It is no coincidence that the batting of Travis Head has improved markedly since he joined the Australian Cricket Team where he was able to receive the high end coaching which has enabled him to improve his technique to the point where he is now in the top five players in the world. Meanwhile back in South Australia they continue on with no batting coach, the only way Henry Hunt will improve will be getting the opportunity to work in Brisbane, for any young South Australian batsman unless you avail yourself of the private coaching available in the Eastern States you have no hope, once in a generation talents like Head have to hope they get selected to play on their talent, the improvement he has made in the Australian team environment is commensurate with the help he has received in these last few years. He barely resembles the player he was prior to getting the opportunity.

Well said. Unfortunately as the old saying goes... fish rots from the head first. Starts at the SACA president and head of "high performance" and works its way down from there.

Do players get much technique alterations at international level? Would think it would be more about performance at that level than a heap of technical tinkering. The squad only comes together for matches/series anyway.

Would think Travis' improvement is a positive reflection on the Redbacks set up. Henry Hunt's the same - club cricketer to test hopeful in a couple of years.

Plenty of other things there to criticise mind you :D

Some big games too, will have impact on premiership table.

Kensington vs Adelaide Uni (2 vs 3)
Tea Tree Gully vs West Torrens (4 vs 5)
Sturt vs Port Adelaide (1 vs 8)
Woodville vs East Torrens (7 vs 10)

Last chance for Port and East Torrens, plus if Woodville lose may struggle to make finals as well due to still having a Bye.

One day semi finals on next weekend

Sturt vs West Torrens
Glenelg vs Kensington

Looks like the Jets-Eagles covers fiasco was enough to get WT into the semis. WT 4th, ND 5th, separated by net run rate. Funny how things work out!

Might be some quite strong teams rolling around that weekend with BBL starting to wind up and the Shield not re-started yet

Port Adelaide thwarted East Torrens in both white ball formats - beat them in the T20 grand final and also beat them in the last one dayer to knock them out of the four. Not sure what they're like now but there used to be a bit of "feeling" between those clubs for some reason

Everyone hates East Torrens including University!
