Absolute joke. Our pitch is bone dry and we don't even have covers.

Would've got 80 overs through comfortably

Heyser, got some questions to answer.

Its been raining on and off all day down here.
There's less than 10 clubs that have/use covers. Ours have been on all day today.

So you would have not got thru 50+ overs. Raining now. 7.05pm.

I too thought the calling off of week one was premature.
Rains were very isolated Friday and Saturday.
What's the season down to now ?
18 days cricket maybe.

You have a clubs, some with 50+ guys, sitting around wanting to play Cricket, but can't, even though conditions allow it.

Washouts are inevitable.
It was a fair call IMO. Not fair if 2 games get away and the rest don't.
Its a good time for cards, team bonding, boozing etc.

Why does that matter though? It's not fair if you get the bottom team in a one dayer instead of a two dayer. It's not fair if you get allocated a dodgy umpire. It's not fair if Week 2 is washed out when you were heading for a win but your rivals were headed for a loss. It's not fair if you play opposition teams when they're at their strongest but others cop them when they have injuries/holidays/weddings/footy trips affecting their numbers.

It's just the luck of the draw! Rain is just another thing.

Why on earth would a club get covers, try to improve their facilities and hire switched on curators who put in the hours to get a deck up? Unless the clubs with the worst pitch square and the worst drainage and the worst or non-existent covers and deadbeat curators get away then it's all wasted effort. Clubs should be reimbursed for their curating costs this week. Every club who got a deck up should be reimbursed $500 by ATCA.

Assuming ATCA is like Grade Cricket, but the big problem is if one game gets under way on the first Day of a two day game, then all the other matches still have to play under two day rules on the second day, making it impossible to get a result unless you do declarations.

If they changed the rule, and allow any game that does not get started on the first day can revert to a one day game with 50 overs each, would be much fairer.

Only reason Grade Cricket has that rule is because of non-compulsory declarations. Won't matter in ATCA as they don't have this. Looks like to me because it was week 1 of a game they have pulled the plug on the lot to prevent weather assisted outright wins.

I get what you are saying, but, clubs and umpires get a bit keen and jump on rain affected wickets too quick, dent the shit out of em and the batting side is rolled for bugger all. Unlikely out rights then come into play. Meanwhile other teams play cards and fight out a 1 Dayer the next week.
The only solution is everyone has covers and must use them, or nobody has them.
I know from experience how hard it is to get blokes to help get them on and off at the right times.

Problem is single pitch covers are inexpensive but full square ones are.....as many Grade Clubs found out on Friday single pitch covers simply didn't cut it in the severity of the wind and rain.

We were told we had to have covers and sight screens going in to A1. We complied.
Got a grant for two 25 x 10 metre covers and hessian for one deck for $2000 ish. Its not that hard.
The hard part is getting them on and off when needed!

Need to have good covers so that players can muck around on slip n slides when ATCA cancels all the matches

All A grade district clubs should have covers and be made to use them ( not just when it suits) & decent sightscreens! Same should apply to all ATCA clubs in the top 2 grades.

I think covers are a waste of time. Bloody hard to get people to get them on and off at the correct times.
If the forecast was for rain on a Wednesday evening so we get the covers on, the weather clears over night and our curator wants to Roll the pitch during the day Thursday as more weather is on it's way. How do we get the covers off so he can do this if we are all working. We are community based clubs.
What should of happened Saturday, is games should not of been called off. Teams should of been made to attend grounds and either umpires or captains declare the pitch fit or not fit for playing on. If a clubs pitch is that bad they can contact the opposition club and advise, atca should then inspect those pitches to ensure above board. I've spoken to a few clubs who all could of played Saturday. Those that couldn't play a onedayer next week simple. We miss enough games due to heat or rain during the whole season.
If you are that interested in playing cards go to the casino. Yes down south got more rain but that's the way it is

In today's day and age I don't think it's necessary for the whole team to travel to the ground knowing full well that play isn't going to get underway.

I think that each club has two delegates for weekend's such as the one gone.

One delegate can send photo's and liaise with the opposition delegate to give his recommendations while the other can travel to the away grounds if required.

It is the age old annoyance, I began to travel form Evanston to Christies Beach on Sunday for my daughters game knowing full well that they wouldn't be playing, fortunately I only got as far as Parafield Gardens before we received the call that the match was abandoned.

Anyone know the details behind the A1 player from Walkerville getting suspended last round?
