Reckon the selectors are due to pick a few speculative youngsters rather than topping up with 30 something Shield journeymen.

What we have proven emphatically is that choosing Shield veterans is an absolute guaranteed failure.

We'd have to whacked out on something to go down this path again :D

Despite the time of Careys post i fully agree, how bout Smith just gets a game for the worst shield side in the comp 1st., Then we'll see if he can hold it, then we'll see if he excels and then maybe we might consider him for an Aussie birth in about 3 years

Well, that's certainly been the method of selection we've been using.

I reckon any young batter who starts the Shield season well is a huge chance of leap-frogging those who have been going ok in Shield cricket for years. We played it safe with our Ashes selections and paid the price massively. Wouldn't even be surprised if that Doran bloke plays this summer.

Jake Doran > Kelvin Smith... wouldn't surprise me to see him get representative honours - kid is a dead set gun.

If Kelvin Smith was that good he'd be in the CA XI team and how good are they going?

Is he a one day player? Thought he's more suited to long form stuff.

Anyhow... any clubs got trial games this weekend?

New recruits? Seem to be a few new names in the premier league matches. Wes Agar bowls quite quick apparently. Brother of, playing for Uni.

Word on the street is both University and Prospect have been ringing around all pre-season trying to poach players from other clubs. Don't think they have been very successful.

Uni have got Delmont back for at least half a season. Some whispers that he was staying in the UK. Borgas coaching out there too - great pick up. Anyone know if he's going to play as well?

Greg West? Luke Coates? New names in the premier league squads I don't know. Assume they've lobbed somewhere.

I see that Ross Whiteley is back for Prospect again. Very important player for them. Plus added Alex Keath. Lost Harry Byrnes-Howe though.

Premiers add Jake Haberfield to their stocks

Could be tough to beat

Heard rumour Sam Miller has moved from Prospect to Sturt? Big loss for Pirates if so, good steal by Sturt though.

Also heard Jake Weatherald left Sturt to play at Uni, wanted to wicky?

Greg West at Prospect - lucky not to be kicked out Emerging Redbacks, got in trouble in Darwin with Josh Hoffman, Hoffy was kicked out but he has had way too many chances already so understandable. Woodville may regret their decision to recruit him!

Trent Kelly announced retirement from West Torrens this week, late decision just before season starting.

Heard Stuart Coles moved interstate so Woodville looking for new captain ( cue Harry Nielsen!).

TTG clear favourites, be tight contest after that!

Round 1 this week gentlemen.....

Mick Cramner hitting top form with a double ton in the PL.

Kells pulling the pin on the eve of the season work related or body had enough?

Tipping Adelaide will have a new Keeper in the 1's this year with SACA not allowing Raphael to take the gloves and Sam Darling concentrating on batting only.

Couple of good young keepers getting an A Grade guernsey this season - Kerr and Reardon. Good to see.

Player to watch: Blake Gutschke

You may need to bowl in the 1sts on Saturday Heater!!

Heard the whole bowling line up from last year unavailable! Lawford gone home, Cormack injured, Neate and Valente in Futures.

Only young fast bowlers left, plus young Reardon as keeper.

Think Neate is available far as I'm aware. Club/Premier/Futures on consecutive days will probably prevent Valente playing for us. Which is annoying but this is the last round of the Mickey Mouse cup.

Pretty sure all the Mavericks bowlers are available to bowl this week as the Futures is Sunday to Sunday?

2nd XI games are usually Monday to Thursday. Travel on Sunday if an away game.

Final round of Premier League begins on Sunday and concludes next Sunday.
