The Echidnas are on a roll. Nice to see the move back up into A’s has started well. Looking from afar it seems a few clubs have suffered some personnel losses, and Lobethal and Hahndorf are the teams to beat once again obviously.

The A2’s kicked off on Saturday. Most of the games were fairly one sided except Maccy’s 20 run win against Mt Barker. Was nice to topple long time rivals Woodside, although we made things harder than they needed to be in the end. With 10 teams it should be a competitive race for the 4 finals spots.

Birdwood won’t lose too many minor round games in the TVCA. If Cambrai have their strongest team available in March they’ll be a strong chance to make it 4 straight flags. Can't see any of the other 4 clubs winning it.

Almost just as depleted? Plant, Clements x2, Blackwell and Kropp all played. Dorf had Judd x2 and Ty Watson in who are the only regular a graders.

In other games Nairne inflicted Lobethals 1st loss for the season in an upset
Wistow continue to defy the tipsters and continued their fairytale return to A Grade by defeating Strath on the Turf in a very low scoring game. Rumour has it that Strath need new covers as they leaked causing some issues with the pitch. No idea to what extent and how much of that can be blamed on the low scores?
Woodside continue their revival in narrowly getting over Bremer Callington

Most of the pitch at Strath was ok from what I'm told. But there looked to be a really wet patch in the middle of the pitch from a leaky spot in the covers apparently. Any time the ball hit the wet spots it would take a 'tennis ball bounce' sometimes going up over the batters head but still bouncing a couple of times before the keeper, it made it hard to play any shots off of anything that wasn't relatively full. 100 would probably have been a winning score if Strath could have got there.
There was also a rain delay at the start of the second innings an the covers weren't put on but luckily it was a pretty light shower.

Despite a 5 run loss by A&EHCA to Hills on Sunday, A&EHCA got through on NRR

Ridiculous finish in Lofty/Kangies on Sat,both teams needed to win and SCIB's not win to make finals. SCIB's drew which wasn't enough and Lofty took 5 for bugger all in the last 2 overs to win by a run and grab 4th. Its on youtube if you want to have a look.

It’s finals time…

A Grade- Lobethal have come back to the pack somewhat since Xmas, but will still fancy themselves on the big stage. The other 3 teams seem pretty evenly matched.

A2 Grade- After finishing bottom a couple of years ago Echunga have continued their rise to finish minor premiers. Have the strongest batting line-up, while Lobethal a little more dependant on their bowlers. Nairne at full strength will also give it a shake.

B Grade- Can’t say I keep a close eye on this grade. Appears a tight top 4 with a big gap back to the 2 teams that missed out.

C Grade- Bremer-Cally moved up from D’s and have finished minor premier and will host a semi on turf. Nairne their biggest threat, while Strath and Lenswood edged out a large chasing pack for the final 2 spots.

D Grade- Mount Barker are odds on to go back-to-back, not having dropped a game this season and featuring a few guys clearly playing the wrong grade…

From a Lenswood perspective the A2’s season faded after a strong start, which has been the frustrating norm over the past 4-5 seasons. To have both C’s and D’s in the finals is a great result though, as major round appearances in any grade for the club have been few and far between since the turn of the century.

In the TVCA it’ll again be Birdwood v Cambrai in both grades. The Skunks comfortably claimed the A’s last season, but I sense this week might be different.

A long season for our young A's team but plenty of positives to learn from. Hopefully our B grade can get the job done tomorrow.

AEHCA
A Grade- Lobey prevail by just a wicket against Creek to progress to a 6th straight GF, while Hahndorf’s top order fires to eliminate Nairne.
A2s- The Bulls produced a remarkable chase, recovering from 5/76 to reel in Echunga’s 3/222 with 2 balls remaining. Lobethal again had Nairne’s measure when it matters.
B’s- Lobethal upset the hosting Burras and Nairne had a 7 wicket win against Wistow.
C’s- The Cobras made hard work of chasing Lenswood’s 96 but got there in the end, while a Strath batsmen blasted 80* from 27 balls as they upset Nairne
D’s – The big fish were too strong for Lenswood, while Creek edged out Woodside by 13 runs in a high scoring game.

Cambrai won a 4th straight TVCA title, holding Birdwood to 95 before reaching the target in the 35th over for the loss of 7 wickets. They also went back-to-back in the B Grade.

HCA
A Grade – Stirling thumped Meadows to progress to the GF, while Aldgate ended Mt Lofty’s season.
A2’s- Bridgewater took care of SCIB while Stirling won on the road at Onkas
A3’s – Meadows caused a boil-over by defeating minor premiers Onkas, and Stirling will have all 3 teams in the GF after they beat Basket Range.

Interesting that all 5 away sides won the toss and elected to bowl on Saturday. Runs on the board prevailed in 4/5 games.

Creek will travel to Lobethal for the GF, having routed Hahndorf for 56 in their pursuit of 112 for victory. Kropp with 54* and 4/18.

Lobethal won a low scoring A2's final by 16 runs against the Bulls at a lush home venue. Back to back for the Tigers.

Nairne appeared to be cruising against Lobethal in the B's before a late collapse gave the Tigers a sniff. In the end it was Nairne by 2 wickets.

Bremer-Cally recovered from a shaky start with the bat to defeat Strath in the C's by 50 runs. A good effort given they missed the top 4 last year in D's.

To the surprise of nobody, Mt Barker remained undefeated and beat Creek in the D's, also by 50 runs. Back to back for the Burras. Maybe some will challenge themselves in a higher grade next season..

Aldgate make the As GF defeating meadows in a cracking preliminary final. Fair effort by the gate with a very young group. Remarkable to think they were on the ropes of making finals against us late in the season at 6 for 100 chasing 205 but since that huge recovery and win they have been playing great cricket. Callaghan done a great job getting the lads enjoying cricket, which they weren't with an arguably more talented team a couple years back. Stirling will be hard to beat at home but Aldgate will give it a good crack.

A2s was won by Bridgey in a cracker. Bridgeys young tailenders showed some great grit to get them over the line after the experienced Summerill and Atkins played quality hands. I dont mean this as a dig at Bridgey as alot of have teams have done it and they would struggled in As this year but B grade has now been one by an A Grade side something like 18 out of past 19 seasons.

Cs won reasonably comfortably by Stirling who went back to back. Great effort by meadows to make it.

Stirling with 4 sides in the Gfs with there 16s also making it showing they are the dominant club in the HCA at the minute. Well done to them

Congratulations to onkas on 14s and 16s titles. They are certainly rebuilding nicely and you'd expect to see them have an A Grade soonish.

Barker Ds are a bit of a joke. Seems crazy you can have Tregolan playing that after playing Cs at East Torrens only a couple years back. Not a great look.

Quite simply mindboggling that was. No surprise to see 4 of the 5 Batting 1st teams winning.

2 of the matches were on turf and it had been a damp week leading up to Saturday so that may have come into it but as for the matches on matting it's hard to understand
