breaking win droughts

So the Roosters notched up their first legitimate win since 2014 over the Redlegs.

I recall that the Panthers went over a year without a win some time the late eighties, also against the Redlegs.

The Bays managed to lose every game for four years after their inclusion in league ranks, eventually knocking off West Torrens - the reigning premier, no less.

Similarly Central didn't win a game for its first season. Who was it that they eventually popped their cherry with?

Sturt went over a season without a win in the nineties. Who did they eventually beat to get back on the winners list?

Woodville had some horror runs of losses in the eighties. I am thinking that West Torrens was the victim at the end of the longest such drought...?

Any other significant droughts, and who they were broken against?

I first win, I think, was against Woodville in round two in 1965.

Souths streak was 88 into 1989, beating Norwood at Footy Park

The incredible thing about North's losing steak of 19 in 2000-2001 is that they didn't win the wooden spoon in either year.

The things that stand out from those stats is South have gone a full season with a win 3 times and Glenelg started a major streak just half a dozen games after winning the flag. Have read Pride of the Bay but can't remember if the reasons for the dropoff were mentioned.

Incredibly, the only team Glenelg did not defeat in 1934 was the team they beat for their only win in 1935 - West Torrens.

Yeah the reasons are touched on in The Pride of The Bay, can't quite recall them though.

I recall in 89 and possibly 90, the only team we could beat was Norwood. Had a good win at Adelaide Oval, and a real cracker at Footy Park, during which Scotty Field (RIP) laid Gary McIntosh down for the count with nothing more than a hip and shoulder, after Macca charged aggressively at him. Poor bugger got reported shortly after, when he came to he just forgot that there was a footy at all, and just wanted to belt Scotty. Gave us three highlights in the one day during our darkest era.
Thanks Macca! :D

I thought Scotry laid Macca out at Adelaide Oval (missed that game but remember following it in the media) .. Was a hard nut Scotty Field, without putting on a show about it, just went about his business on the field but was so strong bodied. Always liked him as a player.

Cheers JK.
Definitely Footy Park, my memory would be playing some awful tricks on me if it was otherwise. I viewed it from the SW pocket, about half way up the uncovered seated area. Macca had the ball, and was running from the goal square, toward the grand stand side, Scotty just happened to be in the direction he was running in. Macca gave the ball off, then ran about 5 meters straight at Field, who just held his ground.
Could there have been another occasion at Adelaide Oval that I cannot recall? The Footy Park one stood out because I had such an excellent view of it, and the crowd welcomed it with such a massive roar, then this old Redlegs fella in front of us wanted to fight us all because of our reaction. Credit to him though, he turned up at the Sturt club later and apologised and shook hands and all that. Cracker of a moment though. Scotty was a top bloke too, very humble.

Sturt. 1996 v West at Adelaide Oval.

First win after being 0-20 the previous year...

We all ran into the oval to celebrate, story made front page of the tiser.

And things just got progressively better for us from then on.
