Does anyone have any idea when the first broadcasts/telecasts where done of SANFL matches either on radio or television?

Specifically when were TV replays first shown or when could you listen on the radio to matches? TV came in the mid fifties but it may have taken a while for sport to be shown.

Possibly they started with Grand Finals highlights reels?

I must admit i have little idea but my nephew is doing a media subject and needs to know

I still miss the SANFL Reserves match of the day! 1990 i reckon they finished up.

I don't thing TV began in Adelaide until late 50's. So maybe early 60's regular broadcasts were introduced

TV started in South Australia in 1959.

We have a few posts on this thread - (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=34086&p=1367091&hilit=television) that show details going back to mid 70's, although not much has been covered dating back pre 1970's.

TV coverage of SANFL started in 1965 - Ch 7 definitely covered the season and Ian Day who had just retired as a player then started his very long commentating career.
As a primary school kid in the late 60s there were glorious year from 66 - 71 where channels 2,7 & 9 would cover a game each (plus the Second Eighteens direct telecast at 11.30am). Being a Sturt fan - with Sturt at their best at the time - meant that Sturt were featured most Saturday nights in the 7pm replay by one of the stations (and generally won!)
Channel 9 gained exclusive rights for 72 - 74. They would show the Seconds match direct, then a match of the day replay at 7pm and another match after the Saturday night movie - around 10.30 or so.

Everything you say is correct, although at least the last quarter of the 1964 Grand Final was shown on Channel 9 on the night of the Grand FInal and Channel two showed highlights with commentary of the 1963 Preliminary and Grand Final. Incredibly the Channel two games were filmed from the Creswell Stand behind the southern goals and were shown on Tuesday night as part of a show called Sports Cavalcade hosted by Alf Gard.

Did they show any minor round games in '63 or '64?

RPH Started their broadcast in 1991 ... If ABC TV started in 1993 that makes RPH they longest current broadcaster in the SANFL.

LifeFM Started in 2003 I think.

No.

But what they used to telecast live on Saturday afternoon was the amateur league on the ABC.

We used to get replays from Melbourne late on a Saturday night in 1963 and 1964. I certainly remember seeing the replay of SA beating Victoria on the MCG in June 1963.

In 1962 the replays of the VFL finals were shown early in the week. We were very excited when we were able to watch a replay of the 1962 VFL Grand Final at 12:00 noon on the Sunday following the game.
