where are they now? Ex-SANFL players

Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

where are they now? Ex-SANFL players

Postby Darth Vader » Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:00 pm

Good luck to former Norwood and state centre half back Lachie Bowman. He retired from footy and cricket at Orroroo and took up lawn bowls. I nearly dropped dead when I saw him playing as a skipper in Orroroo's A grade bowls team.
Who else is out there doing off beat stuff?
Love to know where Glen Pill is? Wonder if he still has the comb in his sock?

By the way DV, is this a thread to post where former SANFL players are now and what they're doing?

I play Lawn Bowls every Thursday night and Wayne Weidemann is a regular down there (as are several other older Eagles boys and Russell Ebert).

They are all fantastic blokes.

Perhaps a Mod could edit the threat title to say "Ex SANFL Players: Where are they now?"

Russ is a great guy. His whole family are very friendly, welcoming people. Brad is a great kid too.

I think the late Barry Stringer also played bowls at Crystal Brook or Redhill or somewhere up there

not sure what he does for a quid but he bobs up regularly as guest speaker at country league dinners and Mail medal counts. he should have stuck to football because I have been at four or five functions with Robran as a speaker and he told the same dozen anecdotes. Very average I'm afraid but he certainly wasn't as a footballer.

Johnny Platten? Some of you Central Doggies should be able to throw some light on this one. Heard yesterday that he was going to slip up to Port Broughton on a casual basis as a coaching consultant to Mark Stutley and Andrew Bowley at the Eagles

Last year (season 2010) John Platten joined the coaching staff at Central District and was an assistant (and midfield) coach to Roy Laird...

Work wise, I think he is still tied in with The Printing Hub (we're hassle free big fella) and he had those ads on telly late last year with Brett Burton flying like superman.

I'd say he'd be able to helo out with some country coaching on the days he is not involved with Central (he is back out there again this year)

John Platten was working with Daryl Platten who was a district cricketer at Woodville
They were in a printing called the Printing Hub, to about 5 years ago ?
Might still be there ?
The company used to advertise regularly, with Johnny in the commercials

lawn bowlers are taking over! Good on Baz for playing it. Jeff Hammond is some sort of zone coach or captain or something in lawn bowls

DK (Fred) Bills? Where is he these days. Last time I saw him he was driving a Sigma Staion wagon and was a sales rep and living in Tennyson in the same house he bought when he was in the U-19's at Thebarton
