Gday Spelly, talking to a South mate who remembers one year at the bay kicking the first few goals before rolling over and losing by about 10. I remember the game but not the year- any help?

Q by Q scores will get you bonus points!

1998 - Second last game. As a North supporter I was worried because it put the bays within a game of handing us the wooden spoon, something that we had only "won" once in the previous 86 years. Luckily for us West beat the Bays in the last game, but unfortunately it only save us by 12 months. We got the wooden spoon in 1999 and 2003.

Lindsay Smith played a great game for the Bays in that match against South. Got himself drafted, but never heard of him again.

Would have a win there put South into the finals? Seem to remember Centrals and Eagles close, were South too or further below?

Correct South finished on 9 wins along with Central & the Eagles. If they won they would've finished 5th.

Glenelg averaged 9.3 goals per match in 1998. 186 in total, so 22 from that match really stands out. 7 goals were scored in a match an incredible 8 times!

The scorers were in this 1998 match:
Glenelg: Tasker 7.0, Smith 4.2, Growden 4.0, Burke 3.2, Hele, M.Raidis, Picioane, Nicholas 1.0, Bonney 0.3, Hosking 0.1, Rushed 0.3.
South: Sampson 5.0, Perrie 2.0, Fitzgerald 1.1, Morgan, Mills, Genovese, Talbot, Fernee 1.0, Threadgold, Smart, Norman 0.1, Rushed 0.4.

It's worth noting the changes Glenelg made for that match:

In: Kelly, Tasker, Fogden, Oldfield, Contin, Hosking
Out: C.Cornes, Bode, Tudor, Copping, Jameson, McEntee
