Norwood doesn't win all that often at Alberton and when it happens, it usually isn't by much.

I expect today's 36 point margin would be one of Norwood's better efforts, but what is the record?

The best I've found is Round 2 1941: Norwood 22-21 (153), Port Adelaide 12-17 (89)
A 64 point victory.

Another I found is Round 10 1972: Noewood 16-20 (116), Port Adelaide 7-20 (62)
A 54 point victory.

Spelly may come up with another.

Those two are the top two, AH.

Yes, I was there that day as well. I recall it was one of Phil Carman's early games after standing out of footy for 2 years. He ran himself into the ground and was so exhausted in the final term he just fell down a couple of times. It was Michael Olsen's 1st league game.

At 3/4 time, Port Adelaide held a 1 point lead and Norwood ran all over them in the final term kicking 9-4 to 0-3. Woodcock booted 5 goals and Coligan booted 4. THe game was umpired by former Port Adelaide player Peter Mead.

As you said, a very enjoyable day.

Thanks mate, I remember the game for it's shootout nature (and the fact that we had to win to have a chance of making finals), but wasnt aware of the final margin.

Big crowd that day too IIRC, the Pies were cold well before the first bounce

Wow, wish I could remember this one clearly, but it's just a vague memory now with Aishy's bag being the standout performance.
Just didn't realise his goals were all in the first half -what a champion.

Yes, it was a good perfromance by the Legs that day, and Aish was brilliant, expecially in the first half. My memories of the day were:

1. The Port supporters getting stuck into Aish calling him a girl and he wouldn't get a kick. Each time he goaled, I would remind them of how many he had ... "That's 4 .. that's 5 .. that's 6 .. etc". By the time he got to seven one of them said, "Yeah, okay ... the kid can play .. a bit"

2. Dwayne Russell deciding he could kick a goal from about 80 metres out. He went the torp, and it went about 30 metres off the side of the boot. A mate and I started laughing and the Port people in front of us weren't very happy with us for some reason.

3. As previously stated, there was a huge crowd, and getting out in traffic was a nightmare. I was driving around looking for an easy out and we became stuck. I looked over at the driver in the car heading the opposite direction and it was David Payne. We both said to each other at the same time, "How do we get outta here??!!".

4. A sad memory. That night we were back at the club celebrating a win and looking forward to the Elimination Final against Woodville the following week. I had a drink and a chat with a mate Jim Thiel, and he was rapt by the way Norwood had played that afternoon. That was the last time I saw him.

i was at that game too, openly cheering for the legs, as if i remember rightly port would drop to 4th if glenelg and woodville won, glenelg did - thrashing the blues in a night game, woodville lost to south dropping them to the elim final against the legs whilst the bays gave port a touch up in the qualifying final - the game that scott salisbury buried greg anderson. The rest as the say is history

Ps. spelly or AH am i right with the summation regarding woodville losing to south?

Right on all counts stampy. Was at the Woodville game, high scoring, but South had a number more scoring shots. Remember the Budget previews something like "Woodville should win, unless they take South for granted, like teams used to of the Woodville of old". And that's exactly what happened

Woodville won 10 out of 11 coming into Round 22.
