Peter Motley was a gun, pure and simple.
Played 92 games for Sturt and won 2 B & F's, all Australian in 85 and also made Sturts Team of the Centry on the wing.
Went to Carlton in 86 where he played 19 games including the 86 GF. The accident happened in 87 after the Blues lost to
Sydney by 7 points at the SCG.
The accident ended his career. Des English played in the back pocket of the 86 GF, and was diagnosed with Lukemia shortly after the
GF. He wouldn't play again.
Carlton used his illness to spur themselves on to the 87 flag, and after Mott's accident it gave them further reason too.
Both players were the first to see and hold the cup after the presentation and if my memory serves me correct Braddles gave his
premiership medal to Motts.
I have been to a couple of Carlton functions including Craig Bradley's testimonial, where Motts spoke, and the standing ovation he
got was an absolute indication of where he stood at the Blues.
Some greats of Carlton including Doull, Nicolls, Kernahan & Braddles all said if Motts didn't have his accident then his presence
on the field and Football nous would have won Carlton a couple of more premierships in that era. A fair rap one would of thought.
A Carlton & Sturt legend with out a doubt.
