Most (if not all football lovers) would be familiar with Ian McKay's mark in 1952 Grand Final. But as North supporters from that era know it was hardly a "one off".
Here is a couple of McKay marks (taken from Barries Corner) that show his amazing leaping skills.





Ian McKay was named as North's captain of the their team of the century and is a member of the South Australian Hall of Fame. However he doesn't feature in the Australian Football of Fame.......mmmm

I was even more amazed that in the initial inductions which included quite a few outside Victoria - Ken Farmer missed out??? He did get in the next year only because good old Max Basheer tore those ignorant Victorians a new one. The fact Barrie Robran is the only HOF outside those who played in the VFL to have been elevated to Legend status says alot too. IMO Farmer should have been elevated to "Legend" status simply because his goalkicking feats are like Bradman vs the next best in terms of "average".

Always thought that should the SANFL one day change its logo, this would be great silhouette in a timeless NBA-inspired design.

LL, the top photo is interesting. Who were North playing, and why were both sides wearing white shorts?

And now you mention it, Ian McKay would certainly be worthy of a place in the AFL Hall of Fame.

I reckon it might be Westies AH. I think I can just make out a sash but can definitely see the hooped socks.

I don't have any details on that photo, but yeah I think it's Westies as well. I also think the oval maybe Kensington. Regarding the shorts I have a couple of photos of West/North clashes in the 50's where both sides wore white shorts.

The fence looks like Adelaide Oval. The foliage made me think that was at the northern end but, not knowing what Kensington Oval looks like, I couldn't be sure. If we knew what year the photo was taken that would help, as the crowd size suggests it's a final.

I was thinking it may have been a final at Adelaide Oval as well, but I believe McKay wore No.1 when he captained North from 1948 to 1955, and North didn't play West in a final in those seasons.

It certainly wasn't 1952 because the classic photo of McKay shows a different style number on his back.

the guy in the first picture reminds me of my dear friend MAL because he used to get sprigg marks all over his back & neck as well

I'd say it's Adelaide too, because of the railing and posts that holds the pickets together.
