Does anyone have West Adelaide's correct score for this game?
I have 1/2 dozen sources saying 10.11.71 and six others with 10.10.70

I've got 10.11, which would have come from the Advertiser. There are 6 points the difference on the ladder Ecky checked up against between West and North, but that would have nothing to do with Wests' score, as I have North 6 points more for and West 6 points more against. This ladder came from Dion Haymans' guide to the SANFL (the re-released guide in 2004).

I've got 10.11 from Dion's book and Ern Kolosche's 1976 League Football Book.
I think I got 10.10 from the Adelaide Register which the Victorian State library has on microfilm.
Thanks Spelly.

I spent some time in the Adelaide state library on Saturday researching some facts and figures from the years 1907 to the late 1920s in the Advertiser and the Register. I had never looked into this period in any depth before and I am having some serious doubts about the accurate recording of information (scores included) for this period.

The SANFL year books that were released between 63 and 75 (or 6?) list West as kicking 10.11.

I basically just took the scores down as they were printed. I never really looked too much further into it. What sort of things indicate the inaccuracy?

One such example was a match in 1911 where a Norwood player was selected in the team, but the match report said the player was replaced before the game. Then that player was listed as having scored a goal. I had a lot of diffuculty in ascertaining which players actually took the field for each game. Also, scores from games recorded by the Norwood Football Club at the time differs from scores printed in the papers.

I have a list of anomolies I have discovered so far and will be looking to discuss this with the Norwood statisitician when I get the opportunity. I'm not saying the papers are wrong, but the anomolies exist.

Just as a matter of interest, a Norwood v West Torrens match was played at Hindmarsh Oval. The venue was described as a "weird paddock known as Lindsay Circus". I'd love to know what that was all about :)

I have a collection of the South Australian Football Year Book from 1960 to 1975.

From 1960 to 1966 it was edited by Merv Agars and Bob Jervis from the Advertiser and produced by Printers Associates, 60 Wyatt Street, Adelaide.
In 1963, the SANFL started producing the SANFL Official Year Book and was printed by Percival Publishing, 17 Currie Street, Adelaide. In 1964 it was titled "South Australian Football Year Book", and then in 1965 it was known as "South Australian Football Record Year Book". For some reason they ceased production after 1975. It was a wonderful product.
So, for the years 1963 to 1966 there were two books on SANFL football. Those were the days :)

Interesting. It would be intriguing to see what the Norwood stats man has to say about that.

I've read somewhere about "Lindsay Circus" too. I think it had something to do with someone owning the land, and his surname was Lindsay.

The quality of the book started to go down significantly in the 1970s. As the years went by the content went down and the typos went up.

eg. the 1969 book had 144 pages,
1971 128 pages,
1973 96 pages
1975 64 pages.
