Fellow Sturt fan smithy said in another thread that the 1988 contest between Port & Sturt was the best ever.
Sturt won by a point (15.15 to 15.14 I think) in front of 30,000+@ Footy Park.
Anyone got anything better they can think of?

That was indeed a cracker of a match ... Couple of other contenders also involving Sturt would be (Geez thise is tough to type) THAT match at the Parade in 83' and against Port at Adelaide Oval in 82'.
The South v Port (Darren Harris) game at Adelaide Oval in 84' was a great game too.

How about the West comeback against Port in the 90s at Footy Park, 10 goals down and won it with the last goal.

Father's day 1989 North vs Port. 30,000 plus at Footy Park. 5 point margin. Just a brilliant game of footy by two very committed sides.
It should have been the Grand Final. Alas there was no GF that year.

Yep, plus it was for top spot, had a good Port comeback and had some decent brawls.

Using it for comparison purposes only, the best game I've ever been to was an AFL prelim final (Carlton v Essendon), but that Sturt Port game in 88 at Footy Park was by far and away the best SANFL game I've been to.

Norwood v Port, early 80s at Footy Park (80 or 81 I think). Scores were tied for an inordinately long time in the last quarter, with ball going end to end, until Peter Hofner kicked the winner and they got up by six points.
