...this is to do with the lower grades:

1973:
Reserves:
The most number of goals kicked with just one behind on the board:
Round 18
Sturt 3.3 10.7 14.10 21.15 (141)
South 2.0 3.0 8.1 12.1 (73)

In the last Round (21), there were two draws:
Norwood 1.3 3.5 8.5 11.10 (76)
Port 2.4 6.9 10.15 10.16 (76)

Woodville 1.3 3.5 7.12 7.15 (57)
West 1.2 3.3 4.4 8.9 (57)
The League meeting between Woodville and West was also drawn!

Woodville 1.0 3.5 4.7 8.10 (58)
West 4.3 5.4 5.9 8.10 (58)

Thirds:
To label West Torrens' Premiership win as an upset is definitely justified when you consider the following:

Glenelg won six matches on the trot heading in to the Grand Final, the last five were as follows:
Rd 18: 44.27 (291) vs West 5.6 (36)
Rd 19: 38.23 (251) vs Sturt 5.7 (37)
Rd 20: 31.12 (198) vs South 11.12 (78)
Rd 21: 18.12 (120) vs Torrens 5.8 (38)
2nd S: 32.15 (207) vs Central 12.14 (86)

West Torrens were third after Round 21, 3 games behind Central in 2nd spot, losing to them in the Qualifying Final, then narrow wins over Norwood (17 pts) and Central (5 pts), would suggest that a win to Glenelg in the GF was inevitable. But Torrens won it by 13 points, 17.14 to 14.19.

1974 - Grades changed to what they are currently known as - Reserves, Under 19s and Under 17s

Reserves:
Central had a three week run as follows:
Rd 13: 20.26 (146) vs South 15.13 (103)
Rd 14: 20.30 (150) vs North 9.8 (62)
Rd 15: 17.29 (131) vs Woodville 12.6 (78)

Under 19s:
Record amount of behind for any grade team:
Round 19:
Norwood 4.7 10.13 16.22 23.38 (176)
Sturt 1.1 2.2 2.2 2.2 (14)

Under 17s:
A nice piece of symmetry:
Round 2
Woodville 1.1 6.6 7.7 11.11 (77)
West 3.3 4.4 8.8 9.9 (63)

1975
Reserves:
In Round 7 1975, at the 28 minute mark of the third quarter, a player count was conducted and it was found that there were 19 West Adelaide players were on the field. West were leading by two goals, 6.7 to 4.7. Effectively it became 4.7 to 0.0. Woodville still outscored West in the last quarter - 2.4 to 1.2, to win by 39 points, 6.11 to 1.2. Had the score not been rubbed out, West would have won by two points.

1977
Under 17s:
North had three draws during the year, two consecutively:
Rd 7: North 17.8 Port 17.8
Rd 14: North 12.8 Glenelg 12.8
Rd 15: North 16.3 Norwood 14.15

1978
Under 17s:
Most accurate score ever considering the total scoring shots?
Round 12
Woodville 4.0 10.0 16.0 21.1 (127)
Norwood 1.6 1.9 2.14 5.14 (44)

1979
Under 17s:
Lowest score ever:
Central 6.4 11.9 19.14 28.20 (188)
West 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 (0)

The Sunday Mail didn't say. Would have been a nice trivia question.

Not out of the question. :) Especially when you consider the 1993 Alberton match between Port and Eagles.

I well remember that game, the last Thirds GF at Adelaide Oval and the triumphant Torrens full back - none other than David Hookes.

I think that you will find that David Hookes was dropped for the Grand Final after playing every game for the year. That was the story he used to tell anyway.

I daresay you're right. Well he made the final 24 anyway (as per the Budget). Some pretty fair names in that Glenelg side - Kym Hodgeman, Paul Weston and Stephen Copping (the one who was nowhere near as good as Roger Woodcock).

Hookesy didn't play the GF according to his autobiography released after his death. IIRC he hardly played football after that and possibly went to England for a winter of leagues cricket in 74???

instead he became an avid spectator from the West Torrens Cricket club and mysteriously one year a large tree suddenly died...... 8-[ ;)

Read a profile of Hookesy once and next to "Biggest Disappointment" it said: "West Torrens Football Club"
