Just a whole lot of Footy Budgets/Annual Reports, going back a long time, with the odd Club Publication. Unfortunately, the further back you go, the harder it gets to obtain the full name, it appears.

Legs, can you tell when these players played League for Norwood (or if they didn't)? Anything else - such as games and goals will be handy as well.

Michael Barker - I know he played 1 game, but what year was it?
Frederick Bennett
Robert Bertram
Hamish Dillon
Robert Hall
Bradley Hoye
Robert Jervis
William Jordon
William Juniper
John Matthews
Paul Morris
Simon Palmer
David Reynolds
Alf Roberts
Bruce Townsend

Hope this helps :

Michael Barker --- 1995
Frederick Bennett -- 1941
Robert Bertram - 1942
Hamish Dillon - ?? Ross's son, but not sure if he played League. Played twos in the late 90's.
Robert Hall -- ??
Bradley Hoye -- 1993 (came from W.Ad)
Robert Jervis -- 1942
William Jordon -- 1943
William Juniper -- 1909
John Matthews -- ?? Brett (1991)
Paul Morris -- 1994 (Went to Wood-W.T. in 95)
Simon Palmer ????
David Reynolds -- 1966
Alf Roberts -- ???
Bruce Townsend -- I have a George (1907-08), and a Richard (1907-20)

It helps, but it also poses a few questions.

1.
Robert Hall
John Matthews
Simon Palmer
Alf Roberts

I assume that these players with the question marks did not play League for Norwood. That is, they don't appear in the Men of Norwood, nor with your wealth of knowledge and materials, nor I have found anything in any of the budgets or Year Books or newspapers after that. I suppose if anyone of those players did play, they can be reinstated on the list, but for now I will take them off.

2.
John Matthews
Bruce Townsend

Again they don't appear in the Men of Norwood, but you have identified other players with the same surname. I will take these off the list too.

3.
Frederick Bennett
William Juniper
David Reynolds

If you are sure these players played League, then The Men of Norwood might have missed these players out. However, I have a feeling David Reynolds may in fact be John Reynolds i.e. David John, or John David Reynolds. The Men of Norwood has John Reynolds for 1 game in 1966, but no other Reynolds that played for Norwood. I will leave these players off the list otherwise, but if you could confirm Reynolds' names for me that would be good.

4.
Bradley Hoye

I have the 1994 Yearbook, and there is no mention of Bradley Hoye playing for Norwood in that year (1993), or West. I do have a couple of Budgets that say that he played Reserves for Norwood so that might have been as far as he got.

5.
Robert Jervis
Robert Bertram
William Jordon

I have a theory in why these names aren't in The Men of Norwood. Because of the pairing of the teams in 1942-44, players are credited with games played for whatever pair they played for. But I have read that Bob Hank played for Port-Torrens in 1944, but is not on The Power from Port website. I think this is because of him not living in the Port Adelaide zone at the time. It is for that reason Jervis, Bertram and Jordon do not appear in the book, I feel. And also, players may not be credited for the other club if they were already a one of the clubs i.e one player was at Torrens in 1941, and continued on for Port-Torrens in 1942, but is not in The Power from Port records. What do you think about this? Should I keep these player on the Norwood list or not?

I have also put the other players with only a first name initial on the main Norwood list, too.

1- Correct -- I'm sure they didn't play for Norwood, if they played League Footy at all.
2.John Matthews /Bruce Townsend == don't have them listed anywhere.
3.
Frederick Bennett
William Juniper
David Reynolds
Confident they all played for the club. It is John David Reynolds, and I also have him playing 1 game in 66.

4.
Bradley Hoye -- Absolutely positive he played for both clubs, as I saw him play for both teams. He played 25 games for Westies. He transferred to Norwood in 93, and played 3 games. I think he was then injured, and tried a comeback in 1996. Can't explain why he didn't appear in the 93 Annual Report - I did notice that last night. However, if you get your hands on the 1995/96 Annual Report, you'll see that he is credited with 3 games, and beginning his career at Norwood in 93.

5.
Robert Jervis
Robert Bertram
William Jordon

I have a slightly different theory on these guys, and others who played in that era. Basically, players were credited with having continued their careers with either Norwood or North footy clubs, as long as they had played for either club before 42-44, or continued for either club from 45 onwards. However, these players only played between 42-44, so which clubs do you put them under??? Hope that makes sense

Ok, thanks for clearing those up for me. I will keep those players on the list - Bennett, Juniper and Hoye.

As far as Jervis, Bertram and Jordon goes, I'll keep these on the list for now. You might be aware that there is a book on the history of North Adelaide coming out sometime soon. In it will be every player that has played for North Adelaide, and the guy that has compiled these players - David O'Hara who posts as "Statsman" on the Roost website might be able to help out with this.

Yes, the North Adelaide publication should be an excellent one. Now, if only South Ad and the Eagles (especially the West Torrens component) could do something similar, most clubs would be catered for -- albeit in need of some updating. I suspect South will have the biggest list of players,
