Does anybody have the most premierships list?

Postby rogernumber10 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 12:23 pm

Just wondering if anybody has a definitive list of most SANFL premierships for players since we started having Grand Finals? Obviously my guys don't have anyone beyond four in the modern era, so it should be full of Port, Sturt and maybe a few Centrals players, as teams who won multiple flags in an era.
Just interested to see the names really of the guys with 6 and more to their name.

Pretty sure Geoff Motley still has the record. 9 or 10 (?). I dare say Spelly has a complete list somewhere in his bag of tricks.

The dogs have Gowans x 2 and Slade with 6.

I seem to recall one or two Port players in the mid 90's with around 8 to their name.

LL's correct - spelly will provide the definitive answer, in time.

I'd say Ginever, Northeast, Fiacchi, Darren Smith would all have AT LEAST 7 or so.

Scotty and Northeast have 8. I think thats the most of the recent Port era. Fiacchi, Ginever, Darren have 7. Delaney, Rohan have 6. Phillips had around 6 or 7 as well.

Stunning, Macca, that the list of Port players you provide is chock full of 'tryers' rather than highly skilled standouts (Hodges the main exception I suppose).

Therein lay the success of those sides I reckon.

I asked, and thanks to the guru, I received. =D>

Reading through then:
9 - Motley (Port)
8 - Hayes (Port), Hodges (Port), Northeast (Port), Phillips (Port)
7 - Abernethy (Port), Abley (Port), Bagshaw (Sturt), D Boyd (Port), Fiacchi (Port), Ginever (Port), Nelson (Sturt), D Smith (Port), Whelan (Port), F Williams (West/Port)
6 - Adcock (Sturt), D Brown (Port), Delaney (Port), Kretschmer (Port), Miels (Sturt), P Obst (Port),R Smith (Port), S Williams (Port), Zucker (Port), Gowans (CD), Gowans (CD), Slade (CD)

I probably didn't want to see these numbers, but amazing that Port has got 20 different blokes with six or more premierships for the club!!! A whole team of the ...ers. And Fos Williams the only bloke with premierships at two clubs.

I blame West Adelaide for letting him go, and causing this grief for a lot of the rest of us.

Kind of. But you need those types. Guys like D Smith, Ginever and Delaney were fantastic players.

Fantastic footballer who was very unfairly criticised during his career...mostly by his own supporters. Kicked over 500 goals and was a mainstay at CHF. Always stood up when it mattered

I would agree Macca, that state game when he was booed off the ground was an embarrassment from a supporters perspective.

Not as embarassing as that CD's ruckman who got confused for a goal post for a whole year whilst playing in the VFL..

Darren Smith was a good player, he wasn't overly flashy, but always contributed to Port's game plan, he held the ball in when he couldn't mark, and provided opportunies for the runners like Rohan Smith, David Brown etc. He was a key reason why Port won so many flags 15/20 years ago.

I think you're getting a little mixed up there GWW.
Smac was saying that it was an embarassment that Smith was booed off by the spectators.

Quite mixed up, GWW. But I can understand the confusion with me almost complimenting a Port player.
