Team Line-ups

Was there ever a time when SANFL sides were lined up as in Victoria. ie, backs at the top instead of forwards?

If so, when was it changed?

I don't recall seeing the Victorian method used at any time, but in the early days when teams were presented as a line up they were done in opposing pairs - i.e. a birds eye view of the ground.

According to the ABC, SANFL teams are listed with the backs on top and have been for several years now. Obviously it's too hard for a Sydney-based organisation to take regional differences into account. For my part, listing SANFL teams with backs on top is a vile accession to Victorian imperialism and must be resisted at all costs

I don't ever recall hesitating to name with forwards up* myself. So resistance isn't necessary.

What makes it worse is when they list the 1st Ruck in the middle of the team and not at the bottom.

In that case, Pseudo, I'll refer you to the running battle at westies about this, as written on the Detective Bloodhound Report :D

It’s not in my nature to finish on a negative note, but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. Our CEO is doing a wonderful job (and he assures me the scoreboard will be up very soon), our Football Manager has been tireless and very effective and I’ve written enough about our Coach for supporters to know how positive his appointment has been.

There’s one problem, though.

They’re all Victorian.

Now this in itself is fine. I have no problem at all with it, but there are some things that are sacrosanct and lining up the team from the backline first is just going too far. Now I don’t know whether this is just a rumour or not and it may be untrue. I hope it is.

I’ll investigate further, but if it is so, I know you would expect your Bloodhound to stand up for truth, justice and the South Australian tradition. I will, therefore, undertake to prove, by the end of the season, that ‘forwards first’ is the correct way to line up a team.

I’m sure I can count on your support.

Stay tuned.
