Melbourne Cup

Postby Punk Rooster » Sun Oct 30, 2005 5:14 pm

I'm having a crack at Leica Falcon, it's run was outstanding in the Caulfield Cup, and if it can put in a similar effort Tuesday, it will probably be good enough, especially with a professional jockey, Kerrin McEvoy, on board (yes Craig Williams, I'm sledging you..). It would be bittersweet for it to beat Makybe Diva though, who showed what a champion she is in the Cox Plate, but with all the talk going on about her needing a Good Track at worst, but preffering it to be "Dead", and doubts about her even starting, one wonders whether she was set for a Cox Plate/Melbourne Cup double, or just the Cox Plate. Not writing her off, but she has had a different preparation this campaign. Bart Cummings was his wiley old self on sat, getting Strassbourg up at $40 odd $'s, he must always be respected, and was the run the final piece in the jigsaw for a Melbourne Cup assault? Eye Popper, who recieved a tour of the Caulfield race track that only the cleaners would have ever seen, would rate as a very good chance, if someone can translate the word "rail" to the jockey. Railings could not have been prepared any better, the rest is up to him.

My selections (note, these are not tips...)
1. Leica Falcon
2. Eye Popper
3. Strassbourg

Yes, I'm risking Makybe Diva, as there's a skerrick of doubt as to whether she'll start. The track officials shouldn't cheat by watering it either.

I am almost with you Punky, I have said on footysa I like Lieca Falcon. Am also a wrap for Eye Popper. And you cant go past On A Juene in the Geelong cup.

Straight up Leica and then Trifecta with the other two.

I think they will scratch the Diva!

I have just drawn "Portland Singa" in the sweep. Knowing nothing about the gee-gees, can anyone tell me if this nag is any good? I notice that (s)he's from New Zealand, so (s)he can't be too bad.

I'll actually be walking to my car to pick up the kids, after winning a nice sum on the Diva in the Cox Plate I certainlhy won't be doing the same in the Melbourne cup, virtually the same odds and a harder race to win for good horses which she wasn't set for.

My daughter picked Leica Falcon in the Caulfield because it sounded like a Ford and she liked the way it ran home so I'll put $5 EW on it for her and that'll probably be my only bet. Might go a tri or two if I get time to get to the TAB.

I will be boxing 4 in a trifecta;
    Eye Popper
    Railings
    Greys Inn
    Envoy

At least if it comes up it will pay well.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

I've backed Strasbourg E/W on the fixed odds betting @ $35- I like the barrier, are things falling nicely into place for B Cummings???

Boxed Eye Popper, Railings, Leica Falcon & Strasbourg in-
Exacta
Quinella
Trifecta
Pick 4

You have to be 18 to gamble... or have a senile, elder relative to put bets on for you!
