The Kent stables (where he's been training over there) strongly recommended him to have a go at this 1500m event after conceding they were lucky that he didn't knock their horse off last week.
His regular trainer was thinking of spelling him after last week or returning him to have one last run on Adelaide Cup day.
Obviously "Heart of Puissance" will start as favourite and rightly so, it is in the All-Star Mile field but there's an element of confidence amongst the camp, barrier 12 isn't that much of an imposition given the amount of track he has to get across on before the first corner.

I think it will shorten from the 7.50 on offer this morning.

According to the sportsbet speedmaps, he has 3 inside him that like to lead, he may be able to slot in behind them without too much effort.

Had a week off on the 13th.

4th Jan
18th Jan
30th Jan
6th Feb
19th Feb

The trainer said last week he licked his feed bowl clean by the morning which is rare when horses run in the evening, he was fresh as a daisy from then on which gave him no hesitation in suggesting that he should go again.

I guess we'll know more tomorrow but this is a huge gauge for us to see where he's at and how versatile he can be.

That's where I'd prefer Will Price on him but I think Liam can get the job done after pocketing himself last week.

Nobody has ever been able to adequately explain to me (not to my satisfaction, anyway) why horses get trained at the crack of dawn but race in the middle of the afternoon.

Cos the trainer has to go to the races/pub in the arvo/evening?

That was my understanding too, trainers and jockeys at the races in the arvo. Meant to be at the track 90 minutes before your first race

1: So trainers can fit all of their horses in.
2: There are quite often race meets or trials going on later in the day.
3: So ground staff can work on the track in the afternoon.
4: So the trainers can go and watch the racing in the afternoon.

Having stated all of the above, the Godolphin stable trains later, they say it improves the mood of the staff but they do have the luxury of their own track.

It's the difference between the successful stables and the hacks.

One at Townsville on the 12th Race 5 was called "Bondage".

It also had "So You Dream", "Seriously Happy", "Fear Factor" and "Tell Everybody" in the same race, could have made for some interesting exotics.

Boosted it to $11. I've got Vangelic as a BB with Williams (or as our group of mates refer to him, the khunt) onboard so I'm screwed whether I back him or don't

Yep, for sure, looked good making position and at the top of the straight but just languished the last 100m.

As @Brodlach mentioned, probably a week between runs and stepping up in distance didn't help this late in his prep, especially working from a wide barrier.

It was a decent field and he's still only 4, it would be nice if he could do well over in Melbourne, it's been a bit of a buzz already though.
