Tips for top of the table clash?

With a side packed full of smaller bodied younger players I am rather fearful of what lies ahead for the Power at Skilled next Sunday. The Cats will use this opportunity to put the 7 other sides in the top 8 on notice.

With two minor round games to go most people would think 1st V 2nd should be a cracker, hate to let you down folks, but the Catters will belt out of the way the younger bodies of Port's youth brigade and show the comp it will only be a loss on Prelim final day that will halt the Cats winning the clubs first flag since Bobby Davis was skipping around.

Hawthorn are not much chop for mine,I would have liked to beat them well in Launceston, poor kicking was saved by a last gasp thriller, and it showed the Cats are well ahead of the rest.If Hawthorn were 'next best',God help the rest of us.

REB,get 'em printing the T-Shirts now.

This might turn out a quiet thread booney, I can't see anyone arguing with much of that.

The only thing in Geelongs way now are injuries/suspensions I reckon.

couldnt agree more Boon, the media is patting them all on the back already, they will get a hell of a shock at the cattery, while they have done well their record is good mainly cause they have had the luxury of playing Melb/Rich twice already, they have too many rookies that are performing well but wont help in finals time...

How many Port players would make the current Geelong side? Im thinking 4....Cornes x 2, Lade & Pearce (and maybe Ebert as an emergency)

Cornes X2,Lade,and Pearce is a good call.

Just missing,Ebert (although you would drop,or have to drop Johnson for him,so no),P.Burgoyne,Boak in for Selwood is a must!

Dont get me wrong,I am stoked to be 2nd with 2 games to play.Lose to Geelong, beat Fremantle and we finish 2 or 3.Probably play WCE in Perth,I am ok with that. Our ruck battery holds up to Cox well, giving us an even chance. Then home for God knows who.

So,perhaps a Prelim final, away (?),if you told me we could get within one win of the GF this pre-season I'd have taken it no problem. And as every Port fan knows nothing is assured Prelim final day/night.

T Shirt printing on hold until October Mr Boon. This year's Cat is a classic case of 'one week at a time'...they've even got us fans talking the party line.

As for this week.....Catters to tear Port a new freckle.

REB

I've said this before but, as good as Port have been this year, something has to be wrong with the draw if Port are currently the 2nd team after round 20. Maybe it's just that it's Geelong and then daylight .....? The rest of the teams all about the same and it doesn't really matter where they finish.

Ditto Collingwood finishing top 4 ... just don't look like a top 4 side to me

Has the standard of the comp slipped?

Taking nothing away from Port who have had a great year, I just agree with Booney that this doesn't feel like a top of the table clash coming up.

Well done Port for making the most of their opportunities unlike a certain team I follow

Teams in the 8 and how many times they have played Carlton,Richmond,Melbourne.

Geelong-Richmond X 2,Carlton X1 Melbourne X1 --- 4 games
Port-Richmond,Melbourne,Carlton X2 ---6 games
WCE-RichX2,CarlX1,MelbX1 ---4 games
Hawthorn-Melbourne,Carlton,RichmondX1---3 games
Roos-CarltonX2,MelbX2,RichX1---5 games
Collingwood-Rich,Melb,CarltonX2---6 games
Sydney-RichX2,MelbX2,CarltonX1 ----5 games
Sts-CarltX2,Rich,MelbX1---4 games.

So,Port and Collingwood have had 6 games against the bottom 3,Kangaroos and Sydney 5,Geelong,WCE,St's 4.

I dont think the draw has had that much impact.Carlton beat us once,so you could say we have not taken full toll on the draw as such, but what for Collingwood and Sydney?

Port also play Fremantle twice meaning that, on the current ladder, they will have played all 4 bottom teams twice

I am not trying to knock Port here (believe it or not) as you can you play the cards you are dealt. Just trying to come up with a reason as to why this sudden jump from 10th to 2nd in one season. Not that it really matters as the finals will sort out where the teams are really at anyway.

Maybe they are just better than I give them credit for???? :vom: :D

At the start of the year most punters would have thought Melbourne and Fremantle twice would not have been the blessing they have turned out to be though.

Its almost like a revolving door in 2nd spot, Roos, Hawks, Collingwood, WCE and now the Power have all held it at some stage this year

Geez remember back to Round 1 and that Shannon Grant sitter, that could cost us 2nd spot in the end and a home final against our bitches! :(

Yes, agreed - it's just turned out that way

Pfft, top of the table clash, right in words but the game certainly doesn't deserve that sort of title as it normally brings to your mind that the two teams are closely matched.

My head says Geelong will win.
My heart says Port will win as I'd love to see Port get the top 4 spot rather than a team that might threaten for the flag.

No need for a 'pfft' Wedgie,I agree,if Hawthorn were next best and we just fell over the line against them then Geelong will murder us and everyone else they encounter.

Perhaps only a full strength WCE being able to run them off their feet.

My tip this week Booney? Hope we dont get any injuries and get ready for next week! I have no hopes of a Port victory here. Its like playing Essendon in 2000, you dont expect to win, no matter which team you support!
