Agreed.
Brown: Stupid for opening his mouth.
AFL: What did they expect him to do?

He could have just dobbed him in like Brett Burton did.

Know I raised an eyebrow when I heard what came out of Brown's mouth on On The Couch.
Regardless of Brown's testimony and the authenticity of it, the footage of the incident alone should have seen Judd get at least a two week suspension.

Calls into question a whole range of tribunal decisions
Seem the AFL were the only ones not aware of this common practice among the players???????
IMO, the quicker that 'lie for the sake of another player' stuff disappears from the footy culture, the better - getting to the right decision is more important for mine

I think you can achieve a balance. Let the AFL investigate, what we probably dont need is whingers like Burton.

In anyones language that is a lot of coin. My god if i got fined $15000 i'd just about top myself. The AFL certainly know how to impose punishments over and above what is necessary.

$15K is nothing to these blokes,
the AFL should get serious, suspend players or no penalty

All players should always be completely honest when dealing with tribunal matters. If a player sees something illegal done he should say so. If he's asked to provide evidence then again he should answer honestly. And if you want to blame someone, blame the bloke who did it, not the guy trying to do the right thing.
Brown was simply dumb for saying he lied. Of course the AFL was gong to take action. He's just lucky it's a fine and not a suspension.

You are kidding aren't you? $15K is a lot to anyone. How much do you reckon Brown is on? Don't forget that after his footy career is over the chances are he won't be earning huge dollars. Because a few of the greats earn a sh*tload and can continue to do so after they retire doesn't mean it is the case for the majority. $15 000 is a hell of a lot of money.
Just compare what an ordinary citizen would have to do to get a $15000 fine and then tell me what Brown did justifies this.

Yes about 2 weeks pay, maybe less, but I do agree they have a limited time in which to earn it. They are probably being tough just as courts are when people commit perjury, because lying in evidence undermines the entire system.

Seriously you can shoot someone or rape someone and get less of a punishment these days. I don't for a second think that is appropriate but to fine a guy $15000 for protecting a bloke from being suspended from a game of football is just a joke. The AFL need to understand that the game deserves better than this.
By the way Psyber, do you really think Campbell Brown is on $390 000 per year?
